  • EU will force Apple & Google to allow third-party app stores, payment services

Apple and Google should both shut down their European app stores. They are not obligated to do business in that market. Let the Europeans develop their own phones, operating systems, and app stores.
You think we Europeans like this DMA thing? Well, we don’t. And that’s why I’m also voting for Apple and Google to simply leave the EU market. Someone needs to put real pressure on our stupid fellow citizens here.

We tried making our own smart phones back in the olden days. But none of those brands survived when Apple entered the market. Now it’s just  envious old farts and bad losers that support this DMA, and Margrethe Vestager is one of them. I’m ashamed of having her representing EU’s antitrust politics.

  • Apple researching how to make a 'Star Trek' communicator badge

    A diversion maneuver?
Personally, I think Apple is planning to use this tech in the bows of their coming goggles …and I like it.

  • Apple has a clear path to $1T in revenue by 2030

I still think it’s an interesting and inspiring analysis of semi-feasible business opportunities that Galloway presents. Sure, they are dream scenarios but they have a good deal of expertise and thoughts behind them. At least they got me excited.

  • Google Drive users stung by macOS '.DS_Store' copyright infringement issue

I also think Google is downplaying this. I doubt it’s really just “a small number of files” and “edge cases” if this bug is so easily reproducible.

Sounds like AirTags won't be nearly as useful for tracking stolen items--they may announce their presence and provide their location much too quickly and readily.
That was never their intent and Apple won't offer AirTags for stolen items because you can't both not inform a thief and keep anti-stalking features enabled at the same time.

Actually you probably could by learning travel, location and proximity habits.

An AirTag without a “travel” history, that is traveling around without its registered owner could be considered a “stalking” device… any nearby devices could then be notified.

An AirTag with a history that is all of a sudden moving around without its registered owner, could be considered “stolen”… in this case nearby devices would not be notified.
    Congrats @mjtomlin ;!
You’ve found parts of the asymmetry between the anti-theft case and the stalker case. Which is a thousand times more than grumpy farts like @fastasleep ;and @crowley ;managed to.

People with limited intelligence still have no clue of what makes up a “beautiful” solution …or what clever algorithms could be executing behind the scenes — like the one you suggest here.
