  • Apple drops iOS Private Relay feature for users in Russia

Apple's vision of putting user privacy-first is just marketing.
They just 'turn off' their mantra in Belarus, China, Colombia, Egypt, Kazakhstan, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Turkmenistan, Uganda and the Philippines (and counting)....
Agree. But what should they do instead?

  • Apple's new iPhone MagSafe wallet adds Find My support

    saldog said:
I believe what makes this wallet different is that the iPhone "knows" that it is the wallet accessory that is mated to MagSafe. Before, it might know that an accessory is connected, but not which accessory is connected. There must be some type of identification happening so iPhone knows the wallet is connected. This is not the same as AirTags so shouldn't be thought of the same way. The phone only knows the last time/place it was connected to the wallet, not where it is currently located.
But the iPhone also knows that it's connected to a wallet with the old one.

    Yes. I think so.

Does this mean the Wallet works like an Apple Tag?
If you just get where it was disconnected, no. That would as well be possible with the current wallet. If it would keep sending updates to nearby phones, that would be an AirTag like feature. If it is the former, it's just a software locked feature that would just as well work with the old one.

  • Apple explains why getting iPhone apps outside the App Store is a bad idea

I’ve been able to survive those risks the last 40 years with an sorts of computers, I don’t need Apple to be my nanny now.

  • Apple's Tim Cook: EU big tech rules threaten iPhone security

So, yes, more freedom brings more risks. Should we have Apple lock us up to keep us safe? They know best, don't they? No thank you.
I can keep my Macs safe. I can even keep my Windows computers safe. I can also keep my iPhone safe when I'm allowed to do with it what I want to do. No need for Apple to nanny me.
