  • First Mac Studio M3 Ultra benchmarks significantly outpace the M2 Ultra

$2,000 more for a slower Mac for the majority of tasks.  Great job Apple.  Same stupidity as the $3,000 price hike for a Mac Pro that has very few cards that work in it.

  • Apple's rumored Home Hub said to be under employee testing

Someone on Facebook said it best...this device will be a smaller, less capable iPad with a speaker using an outdated old CPU.  That is Apple's usual strategy with the HomePod device, which has not been a big seller.  People already use their iPads or iPhones for home automation, assuming they actually use HomeKit devices.  Most don't.  No one wants to try and look at a small iPad from across the room.

  • Apple's extortionate upgrade prices can't stop the MacBook Air being a bargain

"in making you upgrade at Apple's ludicrously expensive rates."

Are you comparing Apple's upgrade rates for M-Series RAM (on-die memory) to other platforms (eg, Intel) where the RAM is on separate packages/chips (eg, DDR5?) If so, that's not a fair comparison, because the performance isn't the same. On-die memory has lower latency, higher bandwidth, lower power consumption, reduced complexity and increased reliability. But if you don't value those things, then Apple RAM upgrades are expensive, yes.
You are completely missing the point.  You must be forgetting that Apple had the same ridiculous high prices for memory upgrades with the Intel Macs, with slotted user-upgradable memory.  Apple did not change their upgrade prices for memory when they switched to ARM.  So performance and unified memory has nothing to do with their prices.  Apple has been ripping people off for decades with their memory upgrades.  Now it is even worse.  The M4 Air with 32GB upgrade is $400.  The M4 Pro MacBook Pro with 48GB is also $400.  The M4 MacBook Pro with 32GB is $400.  This is just Apple ripping people off.  Now you are forced to buy from Apple so they can rip you off because they know you have no other options.

Teams is a hot mess. Zoom is vastly superior in every way.

and yet… the IT people at my very large institution have guzzled the Redmond Flavr-Aid and are doing all they can to kill use of Zoom and cram Teams down everyone’s throats. They seem to think Zoom and Teams are interchangeable videoconferencing solutions which is hilarious coming from people who are paid to understand technology. They actually consider Zoom to be a toy and Teams to be a professional solution 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Very fortunately our c-suite people love Zoom.
I don’t understand why so many people dislike Teams. I think it works great on many levels. Video calls work great. I especially value integration with Office.

Integration is what makes ecosystems valuable.

The company I work for used teams and it was junk. Never worked right always had little glitches just like Windows, but the IT guys loved it because it made them feel needed.
And how long ago was that?  Why didn't it work right and what little glitches?  Most issues are user errors because they don't know how to make sure their headsets or mic and speakers are selected correctly and that is usually why they had issues with meetings.  Same is true for Zoom.  Current version of Teams is pretty stable and the 365 integration can't be matched with Zoom.  Since most companies use 365, Teams is it, and Zoom is not.  No software is perfect, but Teams isn't as bad as the commenters here claim it to be.

Think of Apple Maps. When it launched, it was rightly called out for being a mess and for being an inferior replacement for Google Maps. It took a few generations, but I've not heard the average person bitch about Apple Maps for years now.

That is because everyone uses Google Maps or Waze on their phone.  They don't use Apple Maps.
