Despite Apple pushback, Oregon has passed its right-to-repair bill banning parts pairing
dee_dee said:bulk001 said:Well done Oregon! Look forward to seeing more States take similar steps for the benefit of consumers.
For the consumers who are willing to pay less for an increased risk of being defrauded, let them. It should be their right to take that increased risk.
It is the same thing with motor vehicles. Should all independently own body shops go out of business because some of them might use cheap Chinese knock offs and then sell the genuine parts on eBay? -
Does Apple's platform need to be opened up?

Apple caves, EU developers will be able to sell apps directly from their websites
chelgrian said:Yes it will be a security disaster of the EUs own making. You will get exactly the malware situation that exists on non-iOS platforms. Apparently the EU commission neither understand nor care.
It's not just EU citizens who will lose someone will workout how to make the hooks to install stuff work on phones outside the EU and we'll have a wave of malware based on that.
Apple should have pulled out of the EU entirely rather than cave to a law essentially written specifically to destroy Apple's business model. -
If you want blue iMessage bubbles that much, buy an iPhone
Whataboutism is a logical fallacy, but is still shockingly successful as a debate technique in the court of public opinion. It's up there with trying to prove a negative. You do realize that a point being argued with a logical fallacy doesn't invalidate/refute a point being made, right? The idea that a point being argued in invalid simply because it was argued fallaciously is what is known as a fallacy fallacy argument.
