  • Apple's Self Service Repair unlikely to impact iPhone upgrade cycle, study finds

And Apple sells older gen iPhones as new devices at discounted prices.

Not as cheap as the used iPhones that are refurbished.

And on top of that, Apple is the only company that still supports their devices in HW and SW many years after they've been on the market when other vendors just push you to trash it and buy a new one.

Gee.....it's almost like you are proving my point here and not realizing it.

And the post before mine is hilarious in thinking Apple will start selling parts for 5 and 6 year old devices.

Why is that hilarious to you? There are lot of poorer nations where a five and six-year-old device is what they can afford, especially in Africa and South Asia. You take the used iPhones in North America, Europe, South Korea, and Japan and you refurbish them and then sell them in Africa and South Asia.

  • White House shot down Intel plans to increase chip production in China

As a counter example, look at Tesla. Tesla almost went bankrupt a year ago. Its factory in Shanghai saved it and skyrocketed Elon Musk to become the richest person on earth. It is apparently due to China.
Tesla almost went bankrupt in May of 2019. The Chinese factory didn't come online until December of that year and it didn't achieve scale of any significance until mid 2020, so no. Shanghai didn't save it. What saved Tesla was the Fremont factory being able to hit its targets by pulling out all of the stops and then achieving a weekly production rate of 6k model 3s by December of 2019.

  • Apple now calls itself a gaming company fighting with Microsoft, Sony, Nintendo

The majority of PC Gamers don’t play with the most expensive hardware. A small, but vocal, percentage spend stupid money gaming hardware.

Look at the specs for the average AAA game and the M1 machines will fall within them. Sure, you’ll not be playing with graphic settings set to Ultra, but on any latest AAA game you’d have to spend thousands to do that PC or not.

I agree that Apple chasing ever higher margins over market share is strange. If they went back to a 30% margin and took 10-15% off the RRP of their Macs they’d move a lot more of them now that they have such a strong key selling point.

Sadly Tim Cook is obsessed with beyond greedy margins.
Saarek, that was his point about the RTX 3060, the RTX 3060 is considered a mid-range graphic card. You have to spend $3300 on a mac to get a GPU that has at best a mid-range GPU performance (RTX 3060). Whereas, on a Windows you could easily get the top of line graphics system for the for same amount and still be able to get an iphone se 2020 phone with the left-over money.

  • M1 Pro and M1 Max GPU performance versus Nvidia and AMD

You can't compare Teraflops from one GPU architecture to the next.  That is not how it works.

For example, the Radeon RX 5700 XT had 9.7 Tera flops for single, the previous generation the Radeon RX Vega 64 had a 12.6 Tera flops for single and yet in the benchmarks the Radeon RX 5700 XT was superior.

The idea that a Vega 56 is as fast as a GeForce RTX 2080 is just laughable.  There is not a single benchmark review that puts the Vega 56 matching or beating the GeForce RTX 2080.
