  • New malware steals Mac passwords & sends them with Telegram

While using my Safari browser a few months ago, a popup prompted me to enter an administrators name and password.  No mention of who or why they asking.  Turned out to be for my ISP's distributed hot spots.
But seriously, what the hell were they thinking?
I know what I'm thinking: who is your ISP?
Not naming names, but if you drop down your list of WiFi networks, they're probably right at the bottom of the list.  Depending on where you are.
I don't even have to look. Used them before they went from 3rd to 3rd from last in the alphabet.

It strains credulity to think someone would click on a "weed.dmg" app, voluntarily enter their system login info and expect things to go well from there.
"Stupid is as stupid does" and the ever resilient "You can't fix stupid" apply here. Potheads will click on anything to get high.
All true, but stupid is not the exclusive provenance of potheads. About 40-45% of Americans believe that the last presidential election was rigged against them, based solely on what they wanted to happen, rather than relying on common sense and the truth. And some of them don't even use pot!

Sounds like an ill-timed, but productive visit. Certain elements in the Legislature and right wing media are sure to make hay out of it. But if you ask me, good business ties with China are super important, even in the face of recent geopolitical events. China will to be less inclined to damage their best customer.
Lol. Do you think Russia is less inclined to damage us after we
    — gave them Ukraine’s nukes
    — gave them the USSR spot on the security council
    — shut down our own rocket engine manufacturing and made our rockets dependent on their engines
    — made them key partners in the ISS
    — let them genocide Chechnya
    — let them conquer Georgia and Moldova and Crimea
    — gave them Big Macs and iPhones

Of course not. Dictators can’t stop themselves from attacking us. We need to be ready. Apple is making us dependent rather than ready.
Name 1 dictator who attacked you.
Just because something hadn’t happened yet doesn’t mean it can’t or won’t. The lessons of history are meant to be learned from.

    A popular reminder:

First they came for the Communists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Communist
Then they came for the Socialists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Socialist
Then they came for the trade unionists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a trade unionist
Then they came for the Jews
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Jew
    Then they came for me
And there was no one left
    To speak out for me

If we don’t stand up now, there may not be a chance later.
When quoting or paraphrasing, please cite your sources. This was written by Martin Niemöller, a right-wing Lutheran Pastor, who understood that fascist forces in Germany in the 1930's were not the brand of conservatism with which he wanted to be associated. His criticism of Hitler wound him up in German prisons and concentration camps from 1937-1945. It's a loose allegory of the old Arabic tale about the Camel's nose in the tent, or the Cold War's Domino Theory. As well as the axiom, "The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing,” often attributed to Edmund Burke or John Stuart Mill, but whose true origins remain cloudy at best.

That's just a flawed conflation. We are not Russia's best customer. With the recent sanctions, we aren't really a customer or supplier at all. Europe is the best customer for Russia's energy-related goods and services, and weaponry. They have no incentive to leave America alone, and they obviously see advantage in trying to destroy our democratic institutions, as was so transparently evidenced in their interference in our 2016 and 2020 elections.
We spend trillions more for products and services made in China, and their economy is utterly dependent on American consumers. And we can live without almost anything we buy from them. It's my belief that makes them less inclined to ruin our economy. Their exploits here are mainly to steal intellectual property for their own use.
