Hands on: Everything new with CarPlay in iOS 18
I think "a ton of new features" might be over-egging it a bit. The accessibility stuff and contact photos are nice, but showing rather than accurately describing the weather (rather than answering "When will it rain" with "Yes") is pretty useless when you're driving. Same with sports scores.
Why can't we use that extra empty space in the "dock" for a fourth or fifth app, and why can't we choose what apps show there? Why is the text-based messages app always in the list?
I really wish iOS wouldn't drop my home WiFi connection the instant it detects even a hint of the CarPlay WiFi. We have no cellular reception here, so no WiFi means no internet. I can be tens of meters from the car and since it apparently transmits WiFi for a while after the engine's stopped, the phone will continually reconnect to long after I'm out of range for Bluetooth, and even if I manually choose a different network it immediately switches back. It's really annoying.

Apple News ads may get much worse with new Taboola deal
These ads really piss me off as an Apple News+ subscriber, especially the full-screen ones you get flicking between stories. I already dish out a premium for the phone and a premium for the subscription, but despite that, still ads. In fact it pissed me off so much that I am no longer an Apple News+ subscriber, which meant Apple One wasn't worth it, either. So Apple goes from getting £37 per month to £14 for Apple Music only, just so they can get a couple of cents from some shitty ads I never click on out of principle. Good job Tim. -
Apple Vision Pro launches in UK, Australia, and more
If it was £999 I’d be tempted. But for £3500 there is not a chance. Especially since it’s first generation and much like every other VR device, doesn't really have much of a purpose. Nor does it have many apps. I think Apple is going to struggle to find devs who will write for it because they know the market is minuscule. That said it took a while for the iPhone to take off, but then it was 1/4 of the price. -
Apple green lights Epic Games Store in rapid reversal

Like it or not, my opinion and what appears to be the growing opinion is phones are the new computers, all purpose devices and should not be limited by the manufacturer. You should be able to download apps from anywhere you want. -
Why AAA games promoted by Apple flop in the App Store
The cost is certainly a factor, as is the incompatibility with anything else. I can get Stray on the Mac App Store for $30, or I can wait for a Steam sale and get it for $20. The Mac App Store doesn't have sales that I am aware of. And if I get the game on Steam, I can play it on Mac or Windows. Why would I ever buy it on the MAS?
