  • Apple Vision Pro review: six month stasis

    Much ado about nothing.

This technology AR/VR is compelling in its existence but like the dog that can dance, why would you want that?

It's not just the Vision Pro or Meta Quest or any of these 3D devices. They have application in their own niche: surgery, engineering etc. But for everyday use there is no business case.

Like Direct-To-Disc or Blue Ray or Quad Stereo etc. etc. all compelling but no real world need.

Vision Pro can exist and grow if Apple can make inroads into areas where AR/VR has a good business case, but the way I see it, for most people this is just very nice but who needs it.

Apple ought to have stuck to the Apple Car - at least that would have had real world application.

I see a great future in advances in streaming  - which has become the new norm - that is killing off mainstream cinemas.

Watch that space rather than waste thousands of dollars or heavy glasses that provide no direct benefit to you other than emptying your wallet.

  • Security flaws in Microsoft Mac apps could let attackers spy on users

So what else is new? Or news? So far as I am concerned Microsoft is one big Virus.

  • Work on second-gen Apple Vision Pro & new smart glasses is progressing

This is like quad stereo, DVD Blue Ray, there was a push in the cinemas - before I stopped going - to watch in 3D and they used to hand out paper/plastic lens glasses. There were a couple of movies releases that flopped due to the high production cost. And then they stopped. There is no compelling business case. Folks go to the movies to be entertained. On the odd occasion a movie like Avatar is fun to watch in 3D. But that is one movie out of a thousand.
Same with Vision Pro. If I wanted a mixed reality headset I will purchase the Meta Quest 3. No need. Not interested.
I would rather IT providers put their effort into security so that we don't hacked on a personal or company level, rather than wasting billions on AI which is just an algorithm to scrape stale data. It is not predictive. It's retroactive.

  • You may be able to unlock future Apple devices with only your heart

This may prove to be problematic with some of the folks in finance and big corporations. Last time they had a CRT scan it was hollow where the heart should be  :D :D :D

  • How the Apple Ring will blow all the other smart ring manufacturers out of the water

This sounds like another trip down a dead end street. If one has the Apple Watch and an iPhone that's all that one needs to carry around - create a new category call it the Portable. Clearly the functionality and features of the iPhone obviated the iPod. And lo and behold, soon after the success of the iPhone the iPod became redundant.
What can an Apple Ring offer that is not already embedded in the Apple Watch. Nothing. Zip. Nada. The Apple watch mimics to a limited degree the iPhone. But over and above making and receive phone calls it can run a bunch of apps. But most importantly, it has the added advantage of being worn on the wrist and through the use of sensors can provide feedback on a range of health metrics.
And how is Apple Ring going to persuade people that they need to own an iPhone, Apple Watch and either a MacBook or an iPad and also a Ring. No use. Nada. It's like has been said of the Vision Pro. A beautiful device but nobody wants it. Unless someone comes up with a killer app.
Consider the MacBook or iPad - a PC that has become ubiquitous
Apple Watch - speaks for itself
    Ring - Nothing. Zero.

What next? The Apple Necktie. It will hang around your neck and transmit voice and video to your Apple Glasses (To Be Announced) at a rate that surpasses our human ability to view and process.
A perpetual dashcam. You walk into a gallery and the necktie takes in the art and gives you info. You walk into a store and the necktie gives you prices and availability. You walk into a pub and the necktie tells you which women might be interested in you and which think you are a dork. That's for the men. For the women the Apple Scarf.

Once you get the necktie/scarf tied down, you can digitise your shirt, trousers, shoes, jacket, overcoat, hat. One day we will be ensconced by digital devices that will provide us with a useless use cases.

Some of the other silly ideas: Apple Car (not an Apple thing without a car company in tow), Apple Vision Pro (the Meta Quest is a better proposition at the price), Foldable Phones - worst idea ever.

Just because the all time visionary Steve Jobs is not around doesn't mean that Apple has to figure out what else to digitise that is bloody obvious. Lateral thinking is what I call it. Not visionary.

But let's face it, there are only so many use cases that one can digitise and exploit and I think we got them all.

Rather than wasting time on obvious rubbish which will wilt and die why not work on a true AI tool - not the scraping of dead data - and put it to the test by working out where is MH370?
The current AI models are just a bust. Siri on Steroids.

Watch how Google/Alphabet dumps their Gemini in a casket to join the other 255 Google graves. They dabble, then figure out that they don't have the nous, dump it and focus on their everlasting cash register: Search.
