  • New WebKit policies in iOS 10 to allow autoplay of silent videos in Safari, pause those with audio

I still get thrown into the App Store visiting benign news sites due to their takeover ads. Why can't these horrendous ads be stopped? And I use all the top content blockers for Safari on iOS.
    Which ones do you use?
I read using multiple CBs slows your device down without any significant benefits in blocking. Has that been your experience, or would you recommend it?
I only use 1Blocker myself and have found it to be fairly good with English speaking sites.

  • Largest torrent site's owner arrested, Apple data crucial to investigators

Not talking about movies here as you are, but for apps, my two cents here is Apple's amazingly low prices for purchasing its software and family usage/sharing plans with free updates is probably the only solution to battling software piracy.  Renting at high costs like Adobe not so much.

    To fix this, you:

    1) Ensure that recently aired episodes are available immediately after airing for streaming/download.
    2) Break the mold and start releasing films digitally and in theaters at the same time, but at a premium for the first few months.
    3) Establish a subscription plan for all movies, all tv shows in the entire store, and make it so that people can set it and forget it, and never need to seek out a file elsewhere again.
Gotta say that I agree with Turbo here.  If there is a subscription/all you can eat streaming plan (similar to Apple Music) at a reasonable price, people will gravitate to it.  Piracy will drop off.  If is fast, convenient and reasonably priced, why wouldn't you?

Can't see it happening though.  Too many studio execs with their head up their arse.

  • Apple counsel attacks Spotify complaints as 'rumors and half-truths'

    Never used Spotify.
    Never will.
    Good luck with that.
When the Spotify CEO came out and said that those who didn't like the fact that their app was basically going to collect as much info on me, my contacts etc. they should quit, I did. I do think their app is easier to use than Apple Music and makes it easier to find music I like but it sounds like this may be fixed in the next iOS update.
Yeah I wholeheartedly agree here. I grew very uncomfortable with Spotify's rather aggressive data collection efforts. Sure, I understand why they are doing it - they can't make enough money to cover costs with their streaming music.  That doesn't mean I have to like it, so I too too voted with my wallet and moved to Apple Music.

    Very happy with the decision.

  • Apple refuses to back GOP convention because of Trump politics

This will be interesting. There is a large and extremely vocal group of Republican/Trump supporters here on AI. Personally I can't understand why as Apple is the most left leaning American company I can think of in the most left leaning state.

I'm not American but it is so gosh darn interesting watching your politics. It is a mixture of the most toxic reality TV series combined with the naked tribalism of a collegiate final (insert the sport of your choice).

    Fascinating. And horrifying at once.

  • Apple mandates App Store apps support ATS security protocol by 2017

ATS found itself at the center of a small controversy last year when Google publicly disclosed a technique of sidestepping the iOS security protocol with just a few lines of code.

Google discovered that ATS was blocking ads from displaying correctly in certain mobile apps, which presented an obvious threat to its lucrative advertising business. In response, the internet search giant posted a "short term fix" to its Ads Developers Blog proposing developers inject HTTPS exceptions into their apps. By allowing non-secure HTTP requests to succeed, these exceptions inherently put users at risk.
And these few lines neatly summarise why I despise Google.  'Do no evil', my arse.
