Apple uses a unique method to stream and present immersive video
quote: “It's also offered that Apple could potentially be encoding to a specific geometry to add unnecessary complexity, making it harder for others to use the same format.”
With great respecto to the developer… I do not think that Apple will… ‘add unnecessary complexity’ and less ‘to make it harder to decode.’
But we can look what benefits could carry this ’geometric information.’
Typical cameras have two lenses side by side —forget fisheyes—. But VisionPro has a series of cameras in different places. So… maybe… my speculation… that geometry is to allow different ’cameras setups.‘
On the ‘difficult to decode’ side… Apple want to sell devices… and they need movies.
Apple releases total info on ProRes… and other image formats… when they are finished.
On the other hand… one thing is ‘converting’ 2D movies… and quite differnt ‘shooting and releasing in 3D.’
In audio… we have 2 channels in stereo. We can just stream a 3D movie without going thru the 2D stage… needed for cinema protections. -

Airplanes have a ‘Black Box’ —really, it is orange— to record flight data and at lest the las 30 minutes of audio… before an accident.
It is time that… at least auto driven cars… have a ‘Black Box’ recording the car data AND a video of the driver position and the front camera on the car.
Maybe… just the last 30 minutes before an accident… and stored in the car and the cloud! -
