  • Apple might debut 'MagSafe-like' USB-C adapter with redesigned MacBook Pro line

I think a magsafe usb-c connector would be a bad idea, unless it is only used for power. Losing the power on a battery powered laptop for a minute is not a problem. Losing a data connection while you are connected to a network, external drive, or blu-ray burner can be a problem.
I think you already found the solution to this potential problem in your first sentence; the MagSafe would only be used for power. I would be dumbfounded if they allowed it for data too.

Samsung has lost way more money on this self-imposed problem than from all the lawsuits that Apple has pursued over the past six years.
Think about it this way: because of the Apple lawsuits Samsung had to create their own design. One of Samsungs original designs is the Note7. Samsung tried to be creative and it back fired. Also if Appke didn't sue Samsung, then the lattest Samsung phones would look almost identical to the iPhone. At least now you can easily tell the difference between an iPhone and a Samdung.

The Apple lawsuit was worth it
I like your imagination, but no, it has nothing to do with Apple.
It has everything to do with Apple; they rushed the Note 7 out to beat Apple to the punch with the iPhone 7 launch. They didn't do the proper safety checks and now they are paying the price. Of course, we can't know that for sure but that has been rumoured and seems highly likely.

I do not believe this number, I think Samsung is jacking up the number. They are trying to send a signal to the market that demand for the galaxy 7 is higher than reality. I also believe the rolling up other costs and loses they have and using the opportunity to expense them all at the same time so it does not look bad they have other issues. I have seen companies do this exact thing in the past.
Hmm, just the fact that they have to purchase and ship (with postage paid both ways) fireproof gloves and fireproof packaging to those who bought Note 7s directly from Samdung adds a pretty penny to the cost they have to pay!!

Just a tiny correction (not that anyone cares)...the gloves are to protect people's hands from the fibreglass inside the box which can cause skin problems with some people. They're not provided in case the phone suddenly catches fire while they are handling it. Although, it's far funnier to assume that's what they're for! lol

  • More Galaxy Note 7 fires reported as cryptic communications from Samsung complicate exchange proces

In an article I read today on a regular newspaper's site, the author said the negative press Samsung was getting for this "isn't fair". Like, wot???
Unbelievable isn't it? Talk about brain-washed sheep - which is usually what they call iPhone users! Jeff Jarvis was talking on this weekend's This Week In Tech and he said he felt sorry for Samsung. He lost my respect when he said that. Thankfully Rene Richie put him right.

The guy in this CNBC video actually said the publicity surrounding this could benefit Samsung in the long term...what's he smoking?
