Lack of updates and new models sees Apple Watch sales decline
I’m also won’t be buying a new Apple Watch anytime soon. But that’s simply because Apple has already put everything that I want in the Apple Watch that I already own. I legitimately don’t know what Apple could add that would make me upgrade anytime soon.
Well… obviously if Apple used some revolutionary new battery technology that gave the Apple Watch a week-long battery life, that would get me to upgrade. But aside from revolutionary new tech like that, I have everything I already need with the Apple Watch I already own. And that’s a great thing (for me and other consumers).
Note: I have an Apple Watch old enough to have the O2 app enabled. -
Apple's Eddy Cue is guessing that the iPhone will eventually be replaced by AI
Important to note that Eddy Cue wasn’t announcing anything. His statements during his testimony can basically be summarized as:
“Don’t regulate us. We don’t want to be regulated. I mean… maybe Apple won’t be around in 100 years anyway, right? Maybe in 10 years AI will… do something. I don’t know. So like… why even bother regulating us then? Just wait 10… or 100 years.”
This was not Eddy Cue or Apple announcing the future of the company and the company’s products. He just simply doesn’t want the regulators to regulate Apple. That’s all that was. -
Kindle adds 'Get Book' buy button to where it always belonged
9secondkox2 said:All this legislating from the bench will hopefully be dealt with before too long. In the meantime, it’s exposing these shady organizations (who make money from other being on their stores) as extortionists, only putting in work if they don’t pay to be in someone else’s store. It’s why I no longer have an Amazon subscription nor a Spotify one. It’s a matter of principle. Doesn’t alter my lifestyle at all. I’ve always found it healthier and have met lots of good people by always avoiding the card reader at the pump and the self-checkout at various retailers. Going to the human being at the register is the way to go.Apple Books are usually presented much nicer than kindle anyway. And Apple Music has inched closer to the old iTunes simplicity that Spotify copied to begin with.

iPhone 17 rumors: More speed & ProMotion screen, but no big redesign
dutchlord said:Another underwhelming iPhone like “more of the same”. Why call it iPhone 17 if it is the same as the iPhone 16? Why yearly upgrade cycles if Apple has nothing to bring to the table? Competition has more innovation to offer in almost all aspects including photography. I even don’t see a compelling reason to upgrade my iphone 14 pro max. I do most of my photography with my Xiaomi 14 ultra.
You just bought a new flagship phone sometime relative recently, so maybe it’s not super compelling from your perspective. But for those of with 3+ year old iPhone (mine will be 4 years old when iPhone 17 is released), ProMotion and 12GB would be very compelling reasons to upgrade. Assuming those rumors turn out to be true, of course. -
iPhone 17 rumors: More speed & ProMotion screen, but no big redesign
tht said:I think the biggest features the iPhone 17 could have over the iP16 models is the 12 GB RAM and 120 Hz display, both of which are uncertain. Surprised there is even a rumor for 12 GB on the iP17. Going from 6 to 8 to 12 GB in successive years is an incredible pace for Apple. It always comes down to perceived speed or latency and background app killing.
For the vast majority of people, they won't be able to perceive the difference between 8 or 12 GB RAM or 60 to 120 Hz display refresh rate. People just wouldn't be able to tell the difference in a blind test. You really have to know what you are looking for. 5 years down the road, combined with a battery replacement, it will make a huge difference.
Basically at the point of diminishing returns after 120 Hz and 12 GB on a phone. Not many people are complaining about 16 GB RAM on a Mac? You have to be doing something "pro" specific to stress a 16 GB Mac. I don't use Chrome on my M1 Pro MBP16 with 16 GB. Minding that, it's been maybe only a couple times I'd want more after 4 years of usage.
Edit: Well, for my StandBy Mode example, I guess you might not notice the energy-efficiency difference since the phone would be plugged-in (and might not be monitoring how much power each individual device you own is consuming while plugged-in). But there definitely would be a difference. And for on-battery uses, that difference would definitely be more obvious.
