  • Next-gen CarPlay battles Android Automotive for carmakers, drivers

I will never use the new Carplay in my 2024 BM x5 if BM were to jump on board.  The current version of Carplay displays like a Disney cartoon with no way to modified the look, especially colors (too loud typical of Tim Cook preferences). Compared to my sleek, elegant look, predominately gold and black tones of OEM BMW nav and other iDrive 8.5 views, Carplay looks silly as if it was designed by folk at Sesame Street productions.
GUIs are a matter of taste and functionality, and cross-device and eco-system integration are another.  My Jaguar has nice subtle graphics you'd probably approve of, but the overall experience when our Macs, iPads, and iPhones so seamlessly work with Car Play is in another dimension to the manufacturer's offerings alone.  That said, there are a ton of features the Jag's system offers in addition, from ambient cabin lighting choices to the various safety and suspension features and safety adaptations, so using both the Jag and Apple's systems, where most useful, seems the logical way for now.  If Apple were to add all the other features into a full experience, as I believe is coming, then I seriously doubt manufacturers would even worry as long as they sell cars.  At that point, a choice of interface designs and color schemes from Apple doesn't sound too far-fetched.  As it is, the Jag's Sports Dynamic driving mode changes the dash and the entire cabin's color scheme even when Car play is at the forefront.

Wouldn't consider a car without carplay
Same here, that and Adaptive cruise control.

  • Apple in talks to license Google Gemini AI for iPhones

Gatorguy will be thrilled. ;) Seriously, though, if true, what does this say about Apple's own AI and all the rumors? Is it simply a stopgap, as Apple isn't ready yet? Or perhaps Apple is seeing Genimi as a revenue stream and as a user option for its own AI system? If so, how would that work if Apple wants to maintain user's privacy?  So many questions!

    This somehow has to stop.

Countries with their fines and individuals w/their class action suits are using Apple as their personal trust account to withdraws funds.]

This lawsuit was due to Cook purposely lying about the sale slowdown in China to investors, you can't do that.

  • Latest macOS Sonoma update is breaking some USB hubs in monitors

MacOS Sonoma has been the worst MacOS release for Intel-based machines ever.  I'm still on MacOS 14.2 because each point-release update has result in bricking my 2020 iMac and my having to reinstall MacOS, and only with a USB install drive.  Headlines like these makes me wonder if Apple has abandoned any real QC checks with Intel machines.  For the first time ever, I'm seriously considering downgrading my iMac to macOS Monterey as it was completely stable.

It's a disgrace in my book.  Apple really dropped the ball here.
Yes, there comes a time on every older Mac when you realize there is an OS that is the most stable for any given machine, and it is rarely the latest possible. I have a collection (I actually use them regularly) of Macs, from a Mac Plus SE through G3 to many Intel machines, all alongside my M2 Mac Studio Ultra.  In some cases, I partition a drive and have two versions, as with my 2013 Mac Pro; in that case, it has to do with software compatibility more than hardware.  I don't think you can blame Apple (bugs aside); Intel is definitely in the rearview mirror. My wife now has my 2019 27" iMac with the i9 and 64 GB RAM and the top-end GPU, and she uses it for Mail, Safari, and playing Bridge on Line!  It's heartbreaking really, lol.
