  • Apple 2017 year in review: Apple Watch gains further independence from iPhone

I love knowing when my wife rushes out and forgets her iPhone she is still covered with her Apple Watch 3.  $10 a month is a pittance for knowing she has communications abilities not least of which in case of an emergency.

  • After $1.9 billion and seven years, secretive Magic Leap teases Lightwear AR headset

If VR follows every other form of graphic systems ranging from photography to video it will only truly take off when the porn industry put their money behind it.

  • Ireland says Apple to start paying $15.4B in back taxes in Q1 2018

Ok I've got to ask ...  I wonder what happens if Apple is now allowed to repatriate it all at (guessing a rate here) 10% taxation in USA under new tax laws before this gets resolved in Europe ...

  • Apple and Cochlear partner on new hearing implant technology

I presume we'll continue to see all kinds of partnerships between Apple and medical devices manufacturers and I think Apple will also dive deeper into healthcare in general. That's where the money is and it's what bedevils a huge number of customers. The potential is limitless once machine vision, artificial intelligence and advanced on-person devices (starting with the Apple Watch) are considered essential for ones wellbeing.
Personally speaking, I've been waiting for Apple either alone or with other companies to move in this direction with personalized EQ, AI and  contextual correction depending on background noise etc..  My hearing is terrible, now <5K range and I also have sever tinnitus.  Volume isn't the issue, as most people seem to think, it is the inability to differentiate consonants in speech mostly plus any back ground noise and I may as well give up.

Sorry but I have to add as an aside to all those who insist on pronouncing tinnitus as in arthritis and thinking it's hearing a ringing noise.   It's not!  Unlike -itis from the Greek and related to inflammation, tinnitus is a Latin word said 'tin' 'e' 't' 'us' and it has two meanings in Latin.  One being a ringing bell and the other, women screaming.  Sadly some idiot incorrectly translated this a long time ago (obviously not a sufferer) and to this day everyone without it refers to it has hearing a ringing noise.  It isn't.  The second meaning is the accurate one!  "Shrill screaming!"  /rant

    tinnītus
m (feminine tinnītaneuter tinnītum); first/second declension
    1. rungjingled, having been jingled.
    2. criedscreamed, having been screamed in a shrill voice.

  • OWC ships Aura Pro X PCIe SSD flash storage upgrades for 2013 and later Macs

I've stuck with MCE Technology for my late 2013 Mac Pro internal SSD.  According to the MCE tech specs theirs was faster as 4 lane, seen as an internal and a few other things I forget.  It specifically states that the previous OWC version was 'seen' as an external so would be fraught with issues for many things not least of which is Boot Camp.  This could be a new version from OWC that is the same as MCE for all I know.  I know not if this being seen as an external is true of the previous OWC model to be honest but since the MCE version cost less and was apparently faster I stuck with theirs.  Plus MCE have both 1TB and 512 GB models for the new Mac Pro.  MCE also offer the external case for the removed drive.
