  • Apple makes it really hard for users to completely stop it from collecting data

So in the opinion of commenters so far:
No one is the least bit concerned as long as their data isn't being used for ad targeting. Anything else is fair use?
What nefarious other uses are you suggesting there could be?  Just curious.  To me, traffic is a good example of benign data collection by Apple, and this is 100% anonymous.  Apple can report traffic jams, for example. However, not long ago, Google would alert my real estate daughter if someone was crossing on the ferry to Martha's Vineyard and had Googled multi-million dollar properties.  She was then provided with their details.  This all paid for, of course.  That's quite a difference.  This seems to have been stopped by Apple, where iPhones are concerned, and not too many Android users are in that category, so she, for one, misses this 'service' ;).

  • Rumor: M4 MacBook Pro with AI enhancements expected at the end of 2024

How many years until Apple actually has decent AI though? They're not really a leader right now. I'd wait until then to buy a current computer that could actually take advantage of AI advancements.
Too many folks limit the meaning of AI to LLMs and chatbots, where Apple may not have a significant presence (despite being the first). Apple already uses AI in many areas, and there are many more areas where AI will be used going forward.  IMHO, it is 'hold on to your seat time.'  I am definitely holding on to my AAPL shares.

As an aside, talking about AI in general, I was playing with an audio AI yesterday and was able to split apart an 8-Track 1" reel to reel multitrack recording I made of a band 40 years ago that was mixed down to a half-track Revox Tape machine and had echo and reverb. I had digitized this decades ago as soon as the tech was possible, so all I had was a single stereo digital file.  I was able to remove echo and reverb, then separate the instruments and vocals and remix in Logic Pro.  This using an M2 Mac Studio Ultra that performed the entire operation in under a minute.

It was mind boggling. I can well imagine on an M4, Logic having this ability built in.  What a time we live in!

  • External drive support in macOS Sonoma is partially broken, and it's probably Apple's faul...

The last Sonoma update fixed Desktop Remote on my M2 Mac Studio Ultra, it had not worked since the previous update.

  • Apple working on technology to make a futuristic all-glass MacBook Pro

How about an all-in-one, see-through iMac?  Oh, wait ...

  • Apple in talks to license Google Gemini AI for iPhones

    What the hell!
I thought Apple had developed its own LLM which is on par with gpt 3.5. Didn't expect Apple to borrow a core technology from outside.
Yep. If true, this absolutely sucks.
Maybe the Gemini and Open AI will be alternative stand-alone app options to Apple's own built-in AI, kind of like offering alternative browsers. Perhaps a way of fending off the walled garden lawsuits.
