MacBook Pro will regain SD card reader and HDMI port in 2021, Kuo says
I don’t quite get why Apple would bring back these legacy ports.USB-C offers the ultimate flexibility. Get a dongle hub and you can have all those connections and more. And you are not just limited to one side.I have one in my office setup and used to use it when we were allowed to travel. Also plugging in a far easier since you do not have to orient the connect a specific way. Also if you do need to use cards, then a dongle approach will cover all types and covers all throughput.Compared to my old MBP which had a range of ports, I am much happier with the USB-C solution. It offers everything I would need, especially with 4 ports and the choice of which side I want to plug in. -
Apple has taken steps to eradicate mysterious malware strain
The way articles have been bandied about made it seem like a unique vulnerability in the M1 architecture. Now it is clear it is just an existing malware that has been compiled natively for M1.
Obviously, the safest approach is to never download apps outside of the store and not click on clickbait. Still no one is perfect and a lot of users fall for tricks all the time.
I know Apple security updates eventually catch up to these types of threats, but it would be nice if they were working on ways to identifying them as they turn up or at least be able to scan for these items that do sneak in.

Apple increases scrutiny of 'irrationally high' app prices
CheeseFreeze said:Apple created a mess - I have to really carefully scan the App Store for the exact business model. Not great when your kids are asking for a “free app”.
Also, Apple shouldn’t be judge of what is “reasonable”. That’s up to the developer. It’s up to them to make browsing and filtering on business model easier. I want to be able to hide subscriptions from my search results for starters.
When my kid was younger and wanted to buy songs on iTunes, I set up an account that she could only use gifts cards with. That limited the spend to only those and essentially was her choice how she spent her own money.
I don't know how the App Store works with kids, but I guess that Apple should allow parents to block IAP from their kids accounts. -
Tim Cook: 2020 was 'Apple's top year of innovation ever'
aknabi said:A breakthrough year in innovation? Sure... due to the M1 which will redefine the performance/power curve for computing and align with phones.
Ever? Well that's part of the hyperbolic, BS driven we live in today... younger folks haven't seen truly amazing breakthroughs (e.g. the Moon Landing) so a TikTok music remix becomes the innovation standard...
But compared to say Apple's 1984... not even close... Tim, given where Apple is and is going there's no reason for you to be serving the BS lasagna... it's not a good look
Personally, it is Apple's ability to create new ecosystems multiple times that amazes me. Starting with the first Apple computer, then the Mac, iPod, iPhone, Apple Watch. Even the AirPods for me have been fantastic - finally some got wireless ear buds right.
Whilst the Moon Landing was amazing and some technologies coming out from that have changed our lives, Apple has and are continuing to come up with new innovations in computing and electronics that are radically improve how we do things.
I, for one, am extremely excited about the M1 Macs. I think this represents a major fork in the road for computing and will change the landscape again. Remember that when the Mac came out, everyone loved the design and the innovation. However it was not until desktop publishing came out that its true capabilities were realized. -
'Fortnite' developer Epic Games files antitrust complaint against Apple in EU
Instead of "What's at stake here is the very future of mobile platforms." it is what's at stake here is the security of mobile platforms. Apple has excelled at providing a secure and stable mobile experience for billions of users. That costs money and that is why Apple charges developers for using their platform. In return the developers get a broad potential customer base and excellent development tools.
Many developers, including Epic, wouldn't be around if Apple hadn't released the iPhone. Epic is just getting greedy.
