Apple Maps gets crowdsourced accident, speed check and hazard warnings in iOS 14.5 beta
urahara said:I would prefer no reporting feature for Speed Check. Because then people knowing where speed checks are can avoid them and speed at other sections of the road. This would cause more accidents on those parts of the road.
I, for one, want an alert when I go 5 mph over the speed limit. Especially on suburban streets, the speed limit can vary greatly and it is easy to miss a sign at the beginning of a next speed limit. Knowing what the current limit is all the time would be useful and having a warning when you go over by 5 mph will keep people on track and reduce the risk of tickets. -
Intel swipes at Apple Silicon with selective benchmark claims
When PPC came out it was RISC vs. CISC. Whilst PPC was infinitely better in terms of technology, it suffered from manufacturing issues.
Now that ARM has fully matured to the point it can compete with X86 chips, Apple are in a much better position. They own the chip design, have the manufacturing volume advantage (with iOS device chips) and a solid manufacturer who is top of their game.
Apple have learnt a lot how to be successful in the chip game. It's taken them 25 years but as we know they play the long game and can be very patient.
I, for one, am very excited to see how this plays out. It's great to see Intel squirm and hopefully this will impact M$ in the long term. -

Kuo: 'Apple Car' to use Hyundai's E-GMP platform, GM and PSA partnerships possible
This is Apple we are talking about. When have they ever done anything the same as anyone else? Think about it; the iPod, iPhone and iPad, Apple Watch, AirPods all took the basic idea and transformed it into something brilliant.
With a car, there are components, design and build. EV components are very different than for regular cars. Apple have demonstrated the ability to think outside the box with battery design. Electric motors are highly reliable and efficient. Energy recovery is also well established now.
The design is the key for Apple. We have all seen how they reinvented phones in a way no one ever considered. Their build quality is still the best in the world and they use the same factories that competitors use.
The scale its different, which can be challenging, but Apple have the experiencing working with manufacturers and supply chain for making millions of units a month.
I think they can pull it off and it would be just like Apple to have the competition open up the market like Tesla has for them to swoop in and show them how it is done.

MacBook Pro with SD card slot, no Touch Bar coming in 2021
Easyeddieg said:I just wish that Apple’s pricing structure was more affordable as compared to other laptops.
At work we have replace our Lenovo laptops every 2 years. They slow down massively over time and bits fall off regularly.
I would rather pay 2K for a laptop that is going to last for 4+ years than have to deal with poorly made units and the mess that is windows. I'm sure you can get well made PCs but I bet they will be in the same price range as a Mac.
