Foxconn says trade war means China can no longer be 'the world's factory'
GeorgeBMac said:If, as he says, it's all about Trump's trade war, then that will no longer be necessary once we can return to facing our real enemy: Russia. The UK said the same: They were bowing to Trump's geopolitical pressure at the expense of their own best interests....And as to there being "infrastructure anywhere" -- we saw how false that statement is as China quickly returned to full production while India and the U.S. are still struggling to control the virus.
Look, I get you don't like the Orange Man, that's your choice. I encourage you to go spend a few months over there. Work in manufacturing/sourcing. Attempt to purchase property, start a business, be independent as you are here. Then come back and tell us how it went.
You don't even have to go over sea's to get the full experience. Try that in Mexico. Tell them you're an American and you are here to purchase some land and start your own company. And for a preview of our future if the socialists get their way, stop down in Venezuela and try to order a nice ribeye in a restaurant.
And by the way, "the 80's called. They want their foreign policy back." -
New Jersey Court rules suspects can be compelled to hand over phone passcodes

If you don't trust your government you need a new government.
The 'foregone conclusion' argument they state still doesn't make sense to me. Even if they know the messages exist, they don't know the content. If their mere existence was enough evidence, they wouldn't need the warrant and passcode, so it would stand to reason that the content of the messages is the real issue. Providing the passcode is tantamount to providing the content and would seem to be self-incrimination.
Warrants are too easy to get. It's a broken system enabled by the very citizens who pay for the system. Too many people defend police for no reason other than because movies tell them they're the good guy. Same with people who repeat "I trust my government."
In my old neighborhood cops wouldn't even receive warrants. They'd be in your backyard for no reason except to fu** with you and piss you off. When you asked for a warrant they'd just harass you. We were poor, not like we could sue the city. They knew that.
As I said above: If you don't trust your government you need to get another government. That's probably the biggest benefit of a democracy,. It's not perfect, but it does have the best protections from corruption and tyranny. -
Russian watchdog says Apple's App Store rules and behaviors are anticompetitive

While that MIGHT be true, what he said is completely true and accurate. Don't cover up corruption with the Freedom banner. It's been overused and its getting worn out.
We only have Trump's word that China is corrupt. And we know what that is worth. So far, when asked for evidence supporting his allegations he has consistently come up empty. -
TikTok 'shocked' by US executive order and impending ban
raulcristian said:RichieCA said:raulcristian said:I am shocked too... this is unprecedented. There is no reason or justification other than hey, these apps are from a Chinese company. Not from the government of China, not from a company owned by the government of China, just from a private business which, by the way, even offered their source code to be audited.Expect China to reciprocate with the banning of legitimate USA apps just for being from the USA.Not good. Not wise. Not just. You either have no idea or you are not very adept to checking facts that contradict your thoughts, right?Maybe both.Even Sequoia Capital is an investor in the company. Oh, maybe Sequoia is also owned by the Chinese government.kmarei said:avon b7 said:SpamSandwich said:foregoneconclusion said:Tariffs flopped so this is the substitute for "getting tough" with China apparently.
The tool to win the war was tariffs and most industry watchers have made it clear that China hasn't really been paying them. US citizens have borne the brunt.
China, in tit for tat measures, manoeuvred to lower tariffs on countries who could supply its needs, plunging industries like US agriculture to the brink of economic collapse.
In an attempt to get something, anything, to talk about, Trump lauded the phase 1 deal which didn't even include any obligations on China's part to fulfil commitments to anything included in it. Now, Trump is basically saying that deal is not worth the paper it's written on.
From the get go China made it clear that they were in this for the long haul and would suffer but, at the same time, resist and wait things out.
As elections approach and Trump has little cause to celebrate anything, time is not on his side and we are seeing actions like those against Huawei and Byte Dance and Tencent look evermore desperate. All the while, China is basically doing nothing.
As he said the trade war was easy to win and he very much hasn't won anything (he has actually caused great harm to US interests), saying he flopped makes a lot of sense.
China should have pulled into line long ago under such pressure but it's clear they haven't.
the Chinese political system will always outlast any US president
US presidents come and go
But the communist party remains, sure faces change, but the system remains in power
if you don’t believe me, ask Fidel Castro
tons of sanctions, by numerous US presidents
and he still remained in power .
my conspiracy theory is zuckerberg might have something to do with this
i let your negative inflammatory statements stay on FB
and you take out tiktok, which is the biggest threat to instagram
Communist Party of China 1949
The Chinese communist system will last as long as their citizens remain unarmed. That’s all that keeps that form of government going. Don’t pretend it’s some grand program that their people love and want.SpamSandwich said:sdw2001 said:raulcristian said:I am shocked too... this is unprecedented. Parallels Desktop 16 revamped to run Windows faster on macOS Big Sur
Certain Windows apps would previously fail because they required hardware that Parallels wasn't able to mimic. Many of these will now work, with Parallels saying its new version can run over 200,000 Windows apps.Would love to know what one or two of those apps are. I had to run SolidWorks 2020 on a 2010 Mac mini yesterday for some testing. While it was painfully slow, it worked.
Parallels Desktop 16 for Mac also claims to run those apps faster than before, with Windows launching twice as fast, and resuming or shutting down up to 20% quicker. It also improves on the previously significant issue that virtual Windows could request extra disk space, but not then return it when shut down.My comprehension is a little off. If you are running an older version of Mac OS will you notice these advancements as well? I skipped Catalina, I did have it on one test machine for support purposes. I may be a little more open to Big Sur.
