  • 'Subscribe with Google' attempts to simplify how web readers pay for news

The value of the personal data collected is what drives the price of Google, Facebook and their ilk. I prefer to not make it quite so easy for them to profile me, although I end up leaving my fingerprints all over the web despite of my efforts. Why take their shortcut when they just turn around and sell you?

If I buy a magazine or subscribe to the NYT, it comes with the ads that are targeted to the people who are attracted to buy that magazine/paper and read its content. They might sell their subscription list to others but they can't spy on me and know which articles I read and which ads (if any), that I might be drawn to. I like it that way and I appreciate that Apple has not made data harvesting the keystone of their business model.

  • Amazon, big finance spearhead healthcare effort without 'profit-making incentives'

May or may not relate to this Amazon, Buffet, JP initiative, but one thing I would love to see coming is some kind of way to cost compare hospital health services. I recall an article a while back that shone a spotlight on the difference in joint replacement surgery from one hospital to the next and it was off the hook crazy. From $35K at one place to $80K at another, with the same outcome, and since patients are often locked into one network or other, there is no way to shop and save. (And this is independent of the ACA, although it would have been nice if they had been able to address it).

One recalls the most famous Bezos quote - 'Your margin is my opportunity'.

  • Tim Cook says Apple is 'investing aggressively' in the future of the Mac

Hoping they announce the revised iMacs at WWDC and offer for sale soon after. My legacy Cheese Grater Pro (c. 2009), is showing some graphics card oddness and needs to be put out to pasture, soonly!

  • Notes of interest from Apple's Q4 2016 conference call

Personally, my own use of Apple Pay has certainly spiked. Even my local grocery store, a local chain of just 5 or 6 locations, now takes it at checkout. Always a weirdly simple pleasure.

  • Inside iOS 10: Apple Maps will remember where you parked your car

Does Apple Maps auto correct traffic routes based on traffic conditions yet?
Early in the summer I started receiving the occasional siri prompt while enroute along the lines of "you will save 10 minutes by taking an alternate route, do you want to reroute?'. And I've taken them up on it every time, but it wants your permission; not automatic.
