Germany wants Apple to offer iPhone updates and parts for 7 years
Mike Wuerthele said:ivanh said:Not only updates, but also equal level and priority of services. No planned obsolescence. No discrimination of older devices to access of services. Other nations in the world should follow Germany.
JFC_PA hit the nail on the head.
What you want with feature parity is never going to happen. You're confusing the march of technology with "planned obsolescence" which you apply thickly whenever something happens that you don't like.
Similar issues are regularly introduced, like the tagging functionality in Notes in the latest iOS version, which will break compatibility with any device that can’t be upgraded. So you either have to hold back all your devices, or toss some old ones which otherwise would be working just fine. -
Rogue Amoeba quits 'restrictive' Mac App Store
Illusive said:So they want us to buy untested rubbish so then can alter it as they see fit with every update? No, thanks. Long live sandboxing!
For the same reasons an iPad Pro is a joke in name, because anything that carries the restrictions of iPadOS is never “pro”; a iPad that could switch paravirtualizing VM between macOS (with iPad UI in a separate space or running as catalyst apps) when docked with the Magic Keyboard, and iOS-only when undocked, THAT could call itself “pro”.
But tools for development, data recovery, AV capture/redirection, file management, backup, network management, penetration testing, etc. etc. can’t run properly in a sandbox, and these are the things Pros need and use. -
Apple still wants 2023 iPhone periscope camera, just not from Samsung
Wouldn’t Sony (as buyer of Konica-Minolta’s Camera assets) also hold a few patents?

Apple Wallet limits users to one Touch ID finger profile when authenticating state IDs
I understand why there’s just a single fingerprint, but who says it’s actually the correct one?
One can do face identification, and yet use someone else’s finger…
Also, the main purpose of having stored more than one finger isn’t to let others use the device, but to make sure one can continue using the device after e.g. cutting a finger while cooking and wearing a band-aid, or to be able to use thumb or index finger, depending on how one holds the device.
So I used to store left and right thumbs and index fingers, but certainly NEVER someone else’s paw prints. -
Developer interest in Mac is waning, study suggests
The point of using a Mac over say an iPad Pro is that you’re not within a jailed environment. But Mac AppStore have similar restrictions als iOS apps, so obviously the most interesting Mac apps cannot possibly sold on the AppStore, as they provide functionality not allowed for AppStore apps.
Also, it’s a mature market: relevant and interesting niches are long covered by established players. It’s not like on iOS where most apps a silly wrappers around corporate web sites or trivial mobile games.
In short: the publishing of these numbers are meaningless clickbait or the attempt by competition to tarnish Apple’s image, it’s well known enough that the entire PC industry is shitting their collective pants due to Apple’s own silicon advantage.
