Thieves are ripping AirPods Max off heads in NYC
Lack of police presence is a tactic created by activist police unions to scare people into backing bigger budgets for police departments. Almost no city has actually defunded the crime fighting elements of their police departments. Budgets have reallocated funds from police to shift non-police social work to entities trained and prepared to deal with those sorts of things - exactly the changes many police leaders have been asking for. Police unions, being the shitasses they are, are using the defund meme to their advantage, with the side effect being less presence and more minor crimes. Policing is broadly broken in this country and fixing it will be hard. Part of the problem is a long standing one: the people who want to be police officers are the very people who should not be police officers. Having a life long desire to bust heads is not a qualification to enter law enforcement. Being a racist skin head twenty years ago, realizing that wasn't really working and then having the epiphany that racists wouldn't be prevented from becoming cops, is not a valid reason to be a cop - and yet this is exactly what happened.

15.5-inch MacBook Air rumored to arrive in early April 2023
I would buy a 15.5" Air immediately. My 2017 15" MBP is still performs well, but even after a keyboard and battery replacement (free via Apple) I've now got key caps that are cracked. There will probably be another keyboard failure in it's future and that one won't be free. The Air would be a lot faster and the big screen is what I prefer for my elderly vision. Don't need the extra CPU/graphics power of an MBP any longer. I hope this rumor turns out to be correct. -
Meross Smart Plug Mini review: A good addition to your smart home

Do they not use a relay to make and break the circuit? If they are leaking current AND using a relay, that seems crazy bad.
Just to be clear, the fact that solid state relays leak a very small amount of current in the OFF state is not a negative assessment of their worthiness or quality. It’s simply a characteristic of the technology they use. The leakage is observable in this particular case because LEDs have very low current requirements so you get to observe the leakage in this very specific case.
Solid state relays have many advantages over mechanical relays (or more accurately described, electromagnetic relays) especially for switching or controlling AC loads, including having no switching latency, no contact wear, no contact arcing, insensitivity to mechanical vibration, and greater operational energy efficiency. The main disadvantages are the leakage, a small load voltage drop (~0.5V to 0.7V) due to the semiconductor junctions, and lower suitability for low voltage applications.
My Meross MSS115s make a clicking sound when they open or close. To me that says relay, but maybe not? I measured 0.5 volts across the terminals when in the off state.
