  • Video: 13" vs. 15" 2017 MacBook Pro - which Apple notebook is right for you?

I recently ordered the top of the line 15", coming from the 2008 unibody MacBook. Do you think I will notice a difference?
I have my top of the line 15" right now, and I retired a Mid 2010 15" which was an Edsel in many ways.  The difference is huge.  I don't do any work that is processor intensive (actually don't do any work at all as I'm retired/lazy), but I keep my MBPs a long time like you do.  In order for the computer to remain usable in the long term I max out everything when I buy.  This MBP has 1 TB drive, Touch Bar, AMD Radeon Pro 560 in Space Gray.

I actually like the keyboard a lot.  Somehow I am able to type much faster than I was before.  I guess it's the really short key travel.  It is a bit noisier, but that's not really an issue for me.  The speed of pretty much everything is great - I haven't found anything processor or drive performance related to complain about yet.  I have had to turn wifi off and on a couple of times for unknown reasons.  Could just be my Google Fiber Network Box - I find it's a bit weird sometimes.  Also enjoy the Touch Bar and use it frequently.  Love the way it feels and responds.  Customizing it has been fun.  I have the screen capture button added to it and really like that convenience.  I did buy a few dongles and they work well.  The Anker USB + Ethernet adapter is great.  The Internet speed of this computer on ethernet and Google Fiber is pretty amazing.

And BTW nice video AI.  Good summation and comparison.  PS I bought my new MBP from Adorama with the AI discount.  Thanks for that!

  • Jony Ive talks Steve Jobs's vision for Apple Park, design inspiration from 'Star Wars'

Gruber posted a portion of the profile in which apparently some employees aren’t happy with the open workspaces. One, I’m assuming this was discussed and debated amongst everyone involved in the project (including Jobs, Cook, HR etc.) and not just an edict from Ive. And I’m also assuming employees moving to the new building knew this was coming and were able tour a sample workstation before moving in. Two, did Apple have any editorial control over this piece? If so I’m amazed they would allow employee grumbling about open workspaces to even make it in the piece.
The open workspace concept has been tried before, many times. Notably,  Apple's long-time ad agency Chiat-Day tried it in 1994.  It got a lot of attention.  I wonder what kind or research Ive and company did regarding this plan?

    Spoiler: It does not work.

  • Tim Cook talks HomePod's philosophy, ARKit's potential market impact

This speaker has to be the work of Tomlinson Holman, Apple's "audio direction" guy. He invented THX, 5.1 surround and some other highly significant audio devices/systems. This thing seems right up his alley.

  • Apple previews iMac Pro, the most powerful Mac ever built, coming in December

Also, many professionals have dedicated, calibrated monitors that they use.  Why do they need an integrated 27" monitor?

In the video/film world calibrated monitors are required.  This iMac will let you do the Ui work on it's built-in screen and view the output on an attached calibrated monitor. That's how many systems are currently set up so I don't see this as a change.  You don't really need the UI monitor to be calibrated, just the big full screen monitor that you and the clients view.  SOP.
