  • Apple unveils new iPhone SE priced at just $399

I don’t think touchID is great,  wish it could read your fingerprints  through latex gloves.
And I wish I could get a colonoscopy without being touched, but, you know, we live in the real physical world.

  • iPhone location data used by US government to track coronavirus spread

Prospect Park is .82 square miles (although some of that is lake).   Just because a lot of people are going there doesn't mean that they're not practicing social distancing.  In fact, it's easier to stay farther away from other people in the park than it is on a typical city sidewalk.   Same is true for the Coney Island Boardwalk and the beach and places like it.  The Boardwalk is far wider than any city sidewalk - it's about 100 feet wide.    The danger isn't outside - it's inside.  When you're walking in the park, as long as you don't go to the playground or sit on a bench, one is not touching anything.

Unfortunately publicising this idiot just gets him more clicks and more ad revenue.
I totally agree.   I don't think AI should publicize these idiots.  It's a disgusting waste of equipment that could have been donated to a school or a child in need and it's idiotic in the first place.    If I smash my car with a hammer, guess what - it's going to be dented.

I don't even like when iFixIt takes apart an expensive device that they know they can't put back together, but at least when they do it, there's a purpose behind it.

Where have these masks been for the last month? Why are they just being donated now? Why does Apple have 9m?
Cook said Apple was sourcing suppliers for the health supplies and then donating them. It could’ve been a mix of storage and buying them from suppliers. Don’t assume you know the whole story.

Cook is the king of the supply chain and he can find anything.

It still seems odd. If these masks existed somewhere than why did Apple have to track them down. If I had masks I would have started contacting hospitals myself to sell them weeks ago. It is not like nobody knew they were needed.
Because these masks probably didn't exist in the U.S.   Someone else claimed that Foxconn switched production to masks.  If that's accurate, the question is whether they did it on their own or with Apple's strong encouragement   Why does everything have to be about questioning Apple's motives when they're trying to do something positive?    And call up a hospital and tell them you have stuff to donate.  See how easy that is.   It's not, even in this crisis.

Since it is looking like most of us are going to get a $1000 check , consider this a great bargain if you have been waiting to pull the trigger on an IPad Pro.
We'll get the $1000 check and then they'll have to raise taxes in some form or reduce other benefits to pay for it.  There's a $320 billion price tag behind that $1000 (and I bet it's considered income and taxable anyway, which means the government gets a bit of it back.)    People have this silly notion that when the Government pays for something, we don't.  But we do.  The airlines want a $50 billion bailout.   That's about $345 per household.  I don't want to pay that - the airlines have had ten great years, they largely treat us like crap and in this current crisis, I have to assume they're not paying crew and they're not paying for fuel (which is cheap now anyway) since they've grounded most flights, so I think they're shedding crocodile tears.  Let them fund their own temporary losses.   Interest free loans, maybe.   Bailout, no.
