ESPN is absolute trash.  Completely unwatchable.    outside of MNF and college football.
Outside of (by far) the most watched things on ESPN, ESPN is unwatchable.

    Got it.

  • Design failure in Apple's Time Capsule leads to data loss

But a non-WiFi, dead HD Time Capsule was still the easiest/cheapest way (via USB to the Time Capsule) to add a Western Digital drive to my network for more Time Capsule backups. Backup times seem to take about as long as when the original drive was working well. No need to open the Time Capsule up.
Thanks for this post Neverindoubt. I have a fully functioning Airport Time Capsule that I still use actively for backups and as my wifi router. Disappointing to hear I shouldn’t rely on it but helpful to know what you did is an option. One question: are you saying you plugged the Time Capsule into a different router via Ethernet? You mentioned “non-Wifi”. Thanks.
Yes. My Time Capsule is connected to my switch by Ethernet cable, but it could also be connected to another router and work the same way, effectively as a bridge with USB connections. My WD SSD is connected to it by USB cable.

By “non-WiFi” I meant the WiFi on the time capsule is turned off.

I wouldn’t say you “shouldn’t rely on it”, but like every HD it’s eventually going to fail. It’s good to know that adding a replacement HD just requires a USB cable.

I am not familiar with the internals of Time Capsule, but would a preemptive replacement of the Seagate HD prevent or delay the problem???
I stopped using my Time Capsule long ago as a router, and the drive grew increasingly flaky over time, again and again refusing to complete backups, so I stopped using it.

  • HBO Max 'missed the mark' with update, restores native tvOS player

Why do companies think they can out do a provided API? The developers must be generating billable hours.
In the case of HBO, it looks like they wanted data about user behavior that the Apple player does not provide.
Right on time with the release of their add supported tier. Guess they wanted to be able to track what folks watch so they could send them the most appropriate ads on the cheaper service tier?

I think it was because of the ad supported tier, but the reason was because the Apple built in player doesn't block ad skipping. Most (but not all!) of the custom players on Apple TV are for services with ads.

  • Apple TV+ had an estimated 40M subscribers at the end of 2020

Not sure about anyone else, my sub - which was a freebie to begin with - has been extended for free twice. It's only recently that I've been starting to look at Apple Plus - the production quality is always great (not at all a bad thing!) but I don't see that much there, and what is there personally isn't all that appealing. I don't get a feeling of where they're heading with the content - I guess we'll see.

Everyone that was on a free trial has had it extended until June 30.

The interesting question is will they extend it again, and/or just make it a perpetually extendable "free bonus" with any Apple hardware purchase with a screen (or an AppleTV). Currently, the rules are just one free trial per family share household, not extendable by additional purchases.

Ultimately, it's got to work sort of like Amazon Prime Video. Something that's a bonus for being a customer that you wouldn't pay for otherwise.
