I've been stewing on this for a bit and it's really dumb and senseless ad but there's a much bigger marketing issue... Are there really so many Apple users that Intel needs to get them? I mean, Intel sells tens of millions of more PCs with Intel inside. Apple's market share in PC's is a rounding error to them. So it's really just Intel being an as**ole.

Is it not possible Apple already knew about it and was working on a complicated, difficult fix?

I have a question, and I hope I don't get yelled at for misbehaving on these boards again, but...your concern is the government? Really? Private companies and hackers is minor compared to 'the government'? What do you think would interest 'the government' exactly? (unless planning on blowing up people etc) I think the privacy issues are key issues for PRIVATE companies that provide crappy online security and allow massive data breaches. I have to admit, I rarely think 'the government' is worried about me. I think concerns about 'the government' reading your emails to your mom and dad are a bit X-Files.

Weird story. They were still using a payment method. You can’t issue ‘free’ credits or gift cards. And you’d need codes to get onto a device. And employees would know if they lost a device. Then it’d be turned off. There’s a missing piece here.
