  • 2018 MacBook Pro keyboards include silicone membrane, might protect against key failure

Don't write if you can not prove. And don't spread fake news like mention in article "Apple said the revamped keys are not intended to improve reliability. " Apple would never make such comment.......!!
Yeah, well, they specifically did say that, and continue to say it. To Cnet, The Verge, to us, and about four other publications.

Read the commenting guidelines regarding the term "fake news." Cast not the first stone.
Thanks for the information. Apple obviously doesn't want the news headline for the new MacBooks to be: "Apple Fixes Broken Keyboard. Maybe." because that's what they'd get if they admitted the problem. This is the news that the average person uses to decide what to buy. I get it. They want the news to be about the news features and the faster speed.

On the other hand, I feel like I've lost some trust in Apple over this. They are being dishonest about the keyboard to make for a better news cycle.

The other option is that they have a keyboard with the following facts:
    1. People have been complaining publicly and angrily about the keyboard for two years.
    2. They filed a patent to improve the keyboard's reliability more than a year ago.
    3. They added silicone to the keyboard in a way that seems somewhat similiar to the patent.
    4. They have a class action suit against them for the keyboard.
    5. They have instituted a repair program for the keyboard.
Yet with all those facts, they did not (or could not) improve the keyboard in the three plus years it's been out. There is a possibility this is true, but if so, it reflects very poorly on both Apple's engineering and their leadership's ability to plan and resolve issues.

  • Apple came to Ireland to build a community, not skirt taxes, Tim Cook says

Choosing your words carefully so you're not lying is not the same thing as being honest.

I get a popup in the Mac app saying "The map server is not available". I dare say it'll be fixed shortly. Good job I don't need to go anywhere though!
I have Apple Maps and Google Maps installed just in case either fails.
Note that there's an offline option for Google Maps so that it would still be available for navigation even if a server and/or cell-service aren't. Good to have in case it's needed.
Well, I said just in case. I would never use Google Maps unless it was the last option in the world, a lot because of your incessant Google sycophancy on this Apple centric site.  I would use my less-than-perfect Ford Sync 3 navigation system before your oh-so-perfect and shiny Google Maps any day.
So what's your reasoning? Privacy? It's not a bad reason; but, otherwise, Google Maps is better in every way I can think of. More accurate travel times, more accurate directions, more detail in the map, more accurate business information.

Edit: Apple maps does look better and has a better HUD while driving. I should give them that.

  • Grayshift claims it defeated Apple's forthcoming 'USB Restricted Mode' security feature

Back and forth. Nothing is secure, but some things are more difficult/costly/time-consuming to hack.

One of my friends is a city prosecutor, and Android-based phones are no problem to get into, but iPhones are much more difficult.

  • Class action claims all Apple Watches are defective

If there is a defect, it should be fixed. However, I had my first Apple Watch (series 0) for two and half years, and my wife's is still going after 3 years, so it's a very big stretch to say that they are ALL defective. I know that the series 0 had a battery issue where it pushed the screen off, but I've never heard of anyone I know having issues. (I probably know about 8 people with an Apple watch well enough that I'd know if they had issues.)
