In those days, Apple designers figured out a number of clever tricks to make things look even thinner than they were, but in the spirit of updated design, a number of these tricks have been abandoned, resulting in products that in some cases look thicker but are actually thinner than their predecessors. The wedge design was brilliant, and still to my eyes looks entirely modern. I’m glad they kept it around as long as they did, and maybe when some of the current designs start to look dated they can bring back some of the things they learned with the wedge and the rounded and beveled edges of the 10.5” iPad Pro, among others. 

Of course, a “special version” of iOS shouldn’t be relevant here, given that none of the devices in question run iOS. 

Even if Apple never sells a car, the R&D probably generated some patents that could be good to have down the road, so to speak. 

They should double down on battery technology R&D, which is key to so many of their most important products, and if they have a major breakthrough, they can always revisit the car idea to take full advantage. 

Since they only sell AVP directly to consumers, with no other current retail distribution, at least they don’t have to share any small margins with third parties, so they can afford to sell at a smaller mark-up. It makes sense for other reasons too, of course.
