  • Newly-appointed Apple CFO denies 75% App Store profit claim in UK trial

The business model isn’t so complicated, but apparently it’s a little too complicated for some people to understand. If someone could calculate how much the developers are making from advertising on the free apps, Apple’s cut of that (0%) should definitely be factored into the larger figure. And they seem to think it’s all so straightforward, but I don’t hear anyone complaining about the price Apple charges for software updates, for OS or apps. The free stuff is only possible because there is paid stuff compensating for it.

  • US senators question big tech, including Apple, on the reason behind inauguration donation...

We should have much stricter limits on money going to politicians in every case, but there’s also a huge difference between supporting a campaign to help the person you want to see elected, and giving money to the person who has already won the election. I could argue there is also a difference, if perhaps less important, between giving money to someone who could just as easily spend their own but doesn’t see the value, and supporting someone who doesn’t have the same resources at their disposal.

  • Thinner, smarter, more connected: What to expect from a 2025 Apple TV

A long shot, but bringing back optical audio output (which TV used to have) would be great for AirPlay directly to the stereo system without requiring a third-party HDMI audio extractor component. Not holding my breath, of course.

  • Apple CEO Tim Cook personally invested $1 million in Trump's inauguration

Tim Cook did the same thing with Biden. Also, why did Wesley coin the President-Elect as controversial? He won in an electoral college landslide and also won the popular vote by over 4 million votes. I’d say the country clearly stated who they wanted. No controversy here folks. Maybe let’s just stick with tech news and not show our biased political views in a tech article.
He won the popular vote by 2,284,323 votes. The country stated who they wanted, but for perspective, Hillary Clinton won the popular vote by 2,864,974 votes in 2016. It’s not a big margin in the scheme of things.

  • New iPhone 17 rumors point to a radically different rear camera layout

Some previous iPhone models did have a “bar” camera arrangement, but it ran parallel to the length of the phone. If they do it again, it would make more sense to do it that way, for shooting 3D images and video in landscape orientation.
