  • iPhones stored for forensic analysis unexpectedly reboot, causing problems for police

Maybe Apple should add a security feature that automatically reboots the phone if it isn’t unlocked at least once in 24 hours.

  • M4 Mac mini review roundup: Pint-sized powerhouse that won't break the bank

Always happy to see a headphone jack, but maybe the side would have been a better place for it. Some people will use it for headphones, but many will probably want to use it for computer speakers, where you would be less happy about having it plugged into the front. The side seems like a good compromise—still accessible, but slightly out of the way. But the front is better than the bottom!
Also, given that a Mac Studio starts at $2k for an M2 Max machine, I think a lot of the Mac Mini configurations seem like a better value for for many use cases, it’s not just the base model.

  • Apple stuck the Mac mini power button on the bottom

Just leave it on your desk upside down—now the power button is on top.

  • Apple's Magic Mouse charging port design has never been a big deal

The mouse should use old-school MagSafe, and magnetically snap onto the side of the keyboard (without flipping it over) for charging. Not the newer inefficient and bulky “wireless” MagSafe, but the old laptop kind with a direct connection. That way, you’d just have to remember to periodically slide the mouse over to the keyboard when you weren’t actively using the mouse. And of course the keyboards should be wired and backlit.

  • Cheaper Apple Vision headset rumored to cost $2000, arriving in 2026

Dropping EyeSignt is more than the screen on the outside. It’s the cameras that looked at the wearers face, and all of the processing overhead to assemble and ‘undistort’ the eyes into the image on the front. This all was more cost and processing overhead that did not adde to the users experience. This is a very good first step.
I wonder if some of those cameras might be needed for the digital avatar feature, but a lot of people would probably also be willing to give that up too if it meant a lighter and less expensive device. And some of the hardware will probably also just cost less over time, so they may not need to make too many sacrifices to produce a cheaper model.
