Make Air / thinner lighter version of 14.1" Macbook Pro.
To be lighter go smaller.  The 13 inch size is plenty big.  I have 11.6 inch air from 2011 and it was amazing laptop.  The whole point is portability and lightness, hence the air name, right?
I agree. The current Mac Book Air is really the MacBook. Let's restore the Air to where it belongs and prove that Apple can still design something worthwhile. Sitting at my desk right now is my M1 MBA and iPad mini with 3rd party keyboard with trackpad that fit with the iPad in a  case. I would like something between the two then I could dispense with both. A 12" MacBook Air with the bezel and surplus around the keyboard removed, reduced power chip & battery and a single Thunderbolt port to dock with a 6k external display with daisy-chained storage, sound system etc.. and be the smallest lightest notebook on the market. Let it run from a couple of watts - powered by solar film on the lid, no PSU required.

  • Apple Together group invokes Steve Jobs as it protests Return to Work policy

The letter looks like it was written by a committee of delinquents.

IBM wrote the book on productivity, actually many books and academic papers. FP Brookes' "The Mythical Man Month" is the most famous. The most famous conclusion of the most famous book is that taking away the coffee machine had by far the biggest hit on productivity. Why? Because workers prosper when they have their own personal, distraction-free spaces but when they get stuck they have a coffee and have a casual conversation with colleagues which can inspire the way out.

Apple is right to insist that their workers return to the office. A beautiful, private and peaceful office, I hope, and without any of the distractions of home. Then also to provide multiple opportunities to mingle casually with equally-focussed colleagues.

  • Jony Ive's exit from Apple caused by company culture changes and growing frustration

If a computer company gave what people wanted you end up with Microsoft - crap products that never worked.

Ive was exactly what Jobs and Apple needed. As a previous comment said, it is history repeating itself. Those who care about aesthetics have been replaced by business & logistics guys watching the share price.

The last Apple products that Ive was responsible for designing, I doubt will ever be bettered. It is all downhill to the user-groups wish-lists from now on. A sea of mediocrity. Start collecting now. They will only gain in value as Apple slides.

  • Compared: MacBook Air vs 13-inch MacBook Pro for beginners

"The MacBook Air was originally marketed as a thin and light notebook for years. It was the ideal entry-level option for those new to Mac ownership. This was especially true if you wanted a compact and reasonably priced portable Mac, which offered all of the essential elements that you could need."

Absolute nonsense. The MacBook Air always came at a premium price to the MacBook. It was intended for those who wanted the smallest, most beautiful Mac and didn't mind paying the huge extra despite the lower speed. The MBA was niche, high-end, luxury product for most of its history.

However the current M1 MacBook Airs give up nothing in terms of speed. With the 2-minute 'thermal pad mod' they can be even faster than the M1 MacBook Pros (https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/m1-air-with-thermal-pad-mod.2272939/).

The massive, overwhelming advantage is that the M1 MBAs are totally silent. Just as flat screen displays changed the architecture of banks' dealing rooms, the M1 MBA changes the layout of small recording studios etc. - a totally silent laptop as powerful as the maxed-out Power Mac of yesteryear that can even run on a small solar panel, forever. It is a game, wall and location changer.

Remember it can also drive a 6k external display, silently.

Silence is golden. It is also priceless when recording.

  • Teardown of Apple's new & long Thunderbolt 4 Pro Cable highlights why it's so expensive

There is probably more computing power in one of Apple's cable or PSUs than powered the Apollo mission to the Moon :-)
