  • Apple needs an AI-powered folding iPhone to stem its decline in China, says Kuo

     He's not expecting an iPhone fold then, though. Instead, he believes that's when Apple will be able to produce an iPhone with hardware features to help with AI.”

    Everyone seems to be saying that Apple needs to add hardware to support AI.  All of the recent iPhones have a neural engine and I thought that this was all about ML and AI. Is there something else that the iPhone needs for AI?

    All of the AI PCs recently announced have simply added a neural engine and now claim to be AI-ready. If that’s all that is needed, then Apple has been producing AI-capable hardware for several years now, so I really don’t get why the press seems to think the hardware needs to change.  Software, yes, but the hardware fully supports AI as it is now.

  • Which Bluetooth devices you can use with Apple Vision Pro

    I am curious about one feature not discussed. We know that Apple Vision Pro only supports one Virtual Display. When the AVP is paired to a MacBook, that single virtual display appears and the MacBook's display is blanked out.

    However, has ANYONE tried this attempt yet.  First use Sidecar tech (either wirelessly or with a cable) to pair an iPad's display to act as a secondary screen to the MacBook. Then pair the MarBook (while still using the iPad display as a secondary extended display, with an Apple Vision Pro.  Once the pairing (AVP to the MacBook), the MacBook's display should go black while the AVP mirrors the MacBook's display as a floating virtual display.

    My question is - will the iPad's display still act as a visible extended display?
    @MikeJB ;

    When the AVP takes over video from a Mac, all screens attached to the Mac go dark.  There really wouldn’t be much point in keeping the additional screens active when wearing the AVP because the resolution that you could view them at is very limited.

  • 'X-ray teardown' of iPad Pro Magic Keyboard illustrates complex engineering

    My Smart Keyboard for my iPad Pro lasted about 14 months.  In Other words, it failed just outside of warranty.

      At $169, it was a big waste of money.

    I used it. I liked it. But it died like many out there.

    I hope this new keypad is more reliable.
    With Apple, I’m never afraid to take something that’s reasonably close to its warranty period in for repair. They are usually amenable to still fixing it, as long as it is an actual component failure. Additionally, with the Smart Keyboard they did have some early failures so there may be one of their non-public replacement programs available for it. At any rate, my experiences with Apple taking care of me and going the extra mile have always been good and are one (of the many) reasons that I stick with Apple products. Just remember, “It never hurts to ask!“ and if you go in without attitude and ask nicely, you just may get a delightful surprise.
