  • Samsung may launch two bendable smartphones with OLED screens in 2017

Bendable displays will be useful, as they allow more interaction space. I think I'll wait for generation 2 however from a company other than Samsung.

  • Apple working on first Taiwanese bond sale, new Australian bond offering

Thanks.  That figure should really be in the article. If you're going to make a thing of Apples cash pile as an asset then the liabilities are also an important bit of information.
It was explained a few days ago in here on AI in a way I (just about)  understood that this money is so cheap for Apple it enables share buy backs, thus reducing dividends netting actual gains. Not sure if it's that simple that was my take away.
That's an interesting point. If you forget inflation for a moment, and assume their dividend is about 2% a share with a 4% interest rate on a bond, then you can see buying back their shares (reducing the dividend payed) pays for itself in a few years time. Awesome. Ah, compound interest and big numbers.

  • Samsung to bring web-based 'SamsungPay Mini' to iPhones - report

The only advantage of the SamsungPay system is its magnetic field emitter that allows it to operate on older credit card machines. Without that hardware in the iPhone, there doesn't seem to be any technical advantage to this App. Am I missing something?

Android doesn't come with any built-in encryption so it didn't really hurt them. Windows phone is gone so who is left?

    Think outside of phones.
Agreed. This wasn't so much about phones in the long run, it was about communication. If the bill had gone through as written, and Apple and others were forced to create backdoors to be exploited, then a host of Apps and websites would spring up, "claiming" to have no backdoor but with no real way to verify. All those Apps and websites would just be based outside the US and all US companies would be at an unfair advantage since the world's companies and people don't want the US government reading their transmissions. Basically, this would be bad for security AND business. I think the later part played more of a role in killing this legislation than any of the privacy arguments.

  • Motor Trend spotlights 'Apple Car' development in June cover story

If I were Apple's legal, I'd consider suing for defamation. This is horribly ugly and nonfunctional. That Apple symbol should not go on something like this... especially since other media outlets will probably pick it up and people will think that Apple is actually making something like this.
