  • A very false narrative: Samsung Galaxy S8 vs Apple's iPhone

As long as the faithful stay with an iPhone then Apple has many more profitable years ahead.

The problem for the iPhone is not Samsung, like appleinsider seems to think, it is Android in general.

Google, LG, Motorola, Huawei all make great phones and most eclipse iPhone on the camera too. Look at the verge website for their latest camera shootout and you'll see iPhone doesn't even make the podium.

Apple phone inovation has plateaued, technical advancement takes a long time, and because they are running out of features to entice people to upgrade they are now falling behind what was the chasing pack.

As long as the Apple faithful continue buying iPhones, then nothing will change, but don't expect to get best bang for your buck.
It's funny that after so many years people actually still spout this as though it is suddenly relevant and as of it hasn't been said over and over. At this point you guys might as well click your heels in your ruby slippers when saying it. Better chance making it come true.

Having lots of what are essentially white box vendors doesn't magically mean any of them are very good and certainly doesn't automatically mean any are a serious challenge to iPhone, in terms of sales or ability to produce a coherent, compelling and competitive product. Most are still bleeding red and can only continue to subsidize their "customers" for so long (I use quotes because it's a bit like being a "customer" at a food bank if they have to lose money to sell you a phone)

  • Verizon to redirect calls in last-ditch effort to deter Samsung Galaxy Note 7 users

Why on earth would someone still want to use the Note 7?
    Darwinian imperative.

    Samsung should trademark that.

  • Two-year probe of Apple's alleged anti-competitive behavior shut down by Canadian governme...

This was only ever an attempt by our big 3 carriers to distract from their own sky high prices. Our big 3 have amongst the highest rates in the world and the highest margins in the world. They file a complaint with the bureau and presto the public conversation changes to blame Apple for the carriers gouging prices. "Sure our prices are high but it's Apples fault...see, even the gov is investigating them". CB is obligated to investigate on complaints so this was a cheap and easy way to distract from their own practices.

At worst, what I expect the carriers claimed was anti-competitive was actually Apple requesting fair treatment of their users. For years the big 3 had "iPhone plans", without actually calling them that. They were plans that you had to get in order to qualify for an iPhone subsidy/discount on contract and they were often 50% or more expensive than plans required for other flagships. I expect Apple went to them and said "WTF? Why are you extraordinarily gouging our customers? Stop going out of your way to screw Apple users or we stop doing business". And the carriers respond by raising rates across the board for everyone. The expected backlash arrives, possibly from regulators, and they distract by filing a complaint against Apple, hoping to kill two birds with one stone...shift public anger to Apple and get regulators that we're sniffing around them to look somewhere else.

  • Apple activates iPhone 6 Plus repair program to address 'touch disease'

Apple dropped the ball here. Blaming users for a known defect and charging them to fix the defect is going to bite them in the ass.

No drops and no abuse required. That is fiction. Yes, a drop could be a catalyst for the problem to show up, but the defect is there anyway. Blaming this on being dropped would be like Samsung blaming the explosive Notes on 3rd party chargers...sure they might have contributed in some cases, but the fact is that the Notes were defective with or without bad chargers. Apple needs to do the right thing and fix these without charge.

  • Apple Pay adds support for BMO, TD and Scotiabank in Canada

Added my main card to Apple Pay. Now I can finally go outside without any cards *cough*wait-a-sec*

So just as a warning, as I also jumped on the AMEX Apple Pay originally. The POS systems will sometimes reject and request inserting your card. If you see that, you'll still need your card to complete that transaction. AMEX is seen as a US-issued/US card by default, if you insert the AMEX card it will try to do a chip+sign transaction. So don't be surprised if it does this.

Weird. I've been using it since it launched and never had that problem. Worst I've had is amex not being supported and some stores (Staples) imposing a transaction limit, which Amex on Apple Pay isn't suppose to have.
