2022 iPad Pro review: World's best tablet gets M2 power boost - but not much else
As always, why? Apple doesn’t do things randomly yet this article pretty much implies that’s what they did, a speed bump just because they could. Which given the lead the iPad Pro has on other tablets seems unnecessary.I think they may have several objectives here, pick your favourites. 1, create more space between the Pro models and the non-Pro to justify the price difference. 2, seed M2 tablets ahead of upcoming iPadOS features which will benefit from M2 performance. 3, bring the Pro to a performance equivalent to M2 laptops as iPadOS evolves to bring the Pro to a near equivalent of a laptop, pulling the rug from Surface tablets and laptops. Apple has been firmly resistant to adding touch to laptops, but I’ve not heard them say tablets can’t grow up into laptop equivalents. -
One million Facebook users had passwords stolen by fake apps
I’ve always felt that login with X - regardless of what X is - is inherently unsafe due to scamming. I am just flabbergasted that all the X’s out there think it’s cool. Well of course they do, it provides them with a track of where you’re going. No, a direct account on each site is safer, unique passwords, etc.Or course, your password manager knows where you’re going. -
A16 Bionic reportedly costs more than twice as much as A15
Claiming to know the cost of the A16 or any other contract-manufacture chip without an inside source is, frankly, rubbish. Bring me die sizes and gate counts and I can make an informed guess. Moving to 4nm is a 2-edged sword for costs - reducing the overall die size would improve yields and reduce costs, unless other problems with the new process were suppressing yields, and there’s no mention of that here.

Apple Car team reforming before end of 2022 says Ming-Chi Kuo
I continue to think Titan doesn’t aim to build a car, rather it will build a suite of hardware and software capabilities for manufacturers to include in their models, all seamlessly integrated with iPhone, watch, satellite services (watch out, OnStar!), and so forth. Any effort towards physical car prototypes will turn out to be test bed vehicles to design and prove the hardware and software. If there’s a re-org coming it will likely be because they are moving beyond research into full scale development if not manufacture.
