  • 14-inch MacBook Pro review: A true spec bump to an existing powerhouse

Plus, most daily tasks will be single-core tasks yielding a slightly snappier machine for common use cases.”

So most users won’t notice one iota of difference from an M1 Pro MBP. What they will notice is the price hike , certainly in the UK and Europe. M1 Pro MBP’s are heavily discounted at present on apple’s own refurb site. Far more realistically priced than the new M2 Pro MBP in either 14 or 16 inch.

I managed to pick up a refurb 16” MBP 16/1TB for less than a new M2 14” which has less & slower storage.  Absolutely like brand spanking new from Apple.

My only beef with the 14 or 16 inch models are how chunky and heavy they are compared to the outgoing Intel models. Noticeably so. Odd really since the Apple Silicon is supposed to run cooler and be more efficient.

Unless you need HDMI 2.1 or the WIFI 6E (most people use DP via the thunderbolt port for their monitor anyway so only care about this if it’s your 4K you are hooking it up to or have a 6E router) , then consider grabbing a bargain on the M1 Pro MBP.

  • Weak demand for MacBook, Apple Watch, AirPods may have caused order cuts

    Not surprised.
A lack of innovation (certainly looking at you Apple Watch which has barely changed since the Series 6 for the regular edition) and a hike in prices is the reason why.
The high dollar means Euro pricing is borderline ridiculous for many apple products .. yet I don’t see such price rises from the PC makers like Dell or the phones from Samsung/Google.
Biggest disappointment for me was the Air M2. Value proposition plus the redesign killed that product for me. For the 16GB/ 512GB version , it’s practically the same price as the MBP 14” which also has those specs and a lot better screen/ports.
Apple has lost the plot in many product lines.

  • Apple can't make enough of the iPhone 14 Pro to meet demand

Amazing really considering most countries are experiencing a cost of living crisis with energy and interest rates spiralling upwards. The fact that people still prioritise £/$/€ 1000 phones is quite surprising.

  • Apple launches the 27-inch Apple Studio Display with 5K, speakers, camera

An insane price for a monitor that can only do 60hz. Even my current monitor can do 144hz and it’s so much nicer on the eyes. Although it’s not 5K.

Cost a fraction of the price though and has Gsync / active sync. It may not be in the same class colour wise but the refresh rate is so much nicer and I have no issues with the image or colour quality.

  • 90% of respondents in Apple employee-made survey want remote work option

No reason why a company like Apple couldn’t embrace more WFH on a majority basis for employees where it doesn’t impact the outcomes (or even enhances productivity), and combine it with team building events in the office where needed.

Our team is made up of people in China / India / London / HK.

We collaborate with video, screen sharing , peer coding and just get on with it.

Why commute to the office on cramped public transport for 90mins each way just to zoom the same people at a desk. Erm, Yeah, that makes total sense ! A sure fire way to pick up the next variant of Covid too  !

Maybe 3-4 times a month for team building stuff is fine , but long gone are the days when companies are expecting you chained to a desk 5 days a week. Plenty of companies to go work for who are more accommodating if yours isn’t being flexible.
