  • Newly-revealed date glitch may render some iOS devices unusable

This is what Factory Reset is for. Make sure your phone is continuously backed up to iCloud, in case you (or someone else) does something stupid like this.

The problem is, this really does have to be fixed. Some moron will see your phone unlocked and "prank" you. It's like the olden days when Hey Siri could be set to run actively when your phone was docked to power, so guys would come up and say "Hey Siri, from now on call me Butthead."
According to reports, Factory Reset does not work; however, apparently, inserting (or reinserting) a SIM will cause the phone to adopt the cellular carrier's date and time and therefore recover.
Also, if the battery is allowed to drain completely and the handset recharged, it will recover.

  • Apple adds 20 Flyover cities, new Traffic and Nearby data to Maps

You know those vans Apple has been sending around the streets of various cities? I believe they will use them to extend flyover so that you can seamlessly fly all the way down to street level. This would compete with Google's street view.
That, if implemented, would be wonderful: to "fly over" a city and then, with a variation of 3D Touch pressure, "glide down" (animation) to a target area and "land with a tactile 'bump'" on a desired motorway, road or street then continue to "taxy" along to a destination address.

And why stop there? Indoor Navigation using improved Wi-Fi, Cellular and GPS technology is just around the corner, and would enable the journey to continue into an office, shop, gallery or even one's own home to do some shopping, viewing or HomeKit admin.
Hurry tomorrow, I need you now...

  • BlackBerry CEO bashes Apple's data privacy policies

Law enforcement and security authorities have no end of powerful forensic tools to decrypt any smartphone, no matter how locked down with encryption they may be.

The current demands to require back door access are simply an attempt to fob off the expense and responsibility to the smartphone manufacturers, so that all they need is a court order, or even nothing more than an email request or phone call, to gain access to anyone's private information.

Their targets (criminals and terrorists) constitute such a tiny percentage of society after all, so it is worrying how these sweeping powers over the majority of law-abiding citizens' private information are to be used or misused if granted without checks and balances.

  • Apple announces Apple Pay partnership with China UnionPay, expects 'early 2016' launch

First came the 64-bit mobile iOS; on top of that came Touch ID. And the previous two steps facilitated the rollout of Apple Pay. Can't wait to see what comes next (Peer-to-peer money transactions? Apple Bank? One More Thing?)
