  • Apple Fellow Phil Schiller quits Twitter

A lot of people assuming this is political, but maybe Phil just doesn't want to be on a platform that will be run by engineers who are treated like expendable serfs, the way Musk has treated Twitter's staff so far he's driving their most crucial talent away. Phil was in charge of improving the App Store experience for developers (shorter app review times and modifications to revenue split, better communication) so it makes sense for him to support the talented developers who realise Twitter under Musk has no respect for them.

  • Apple launches the 27-inch Apple Studio Display with 5K, speakers, camera

I've been purchasing 4k LG Ultrafine displays (The 5k is no longer available in the UK) for our print designers which only have 95% P3 spectrum coverage for around £600 and 100% P3 displays would run around £3000. We'll likely be passing the LG displays down to editors and giving our designers these new Studio displays.

    For reference, BenQ sell a 4k wide gamut display that only has 95% P3 for £1,599 - Apple are charging £1,499 for a 5k with 100% P3

The only reason it looks expensive is because we've been spoiled by the iMac 5k.

  • Adobe Creative Cloud Pro offers over 200 million assets for professionals

I used Adobe Stock at work to license some 3D models, and there's no way to manage which users have access to the Adobe Stock 'credits' we purchase for the team. That's fine for a small company like ours, who just need a few specific models, but if we used Stock more broadly it could be a bit of a nightmare with users accidentally licensing assets at cost! It's not entirely clear you're spending money doing it, especially to some of the less tech savvy users. Giving one or two users a Pro license with unlimited asset downloads might make be both cheaper and easier for us than adding credits as we use them, but I think the models were Premium content so probably not...

  • New iPad Air moves Touch ID to power button, has USB-C says leaker

I would be very happy if the iPhone got Touch ID back on the power button, as well as Face ID.

  • White House set to entirely ban TikTok from App Store

This is so frustrating. I disagree with basically everything else about Trump but I only have a problem with the crazy way he's trying to address a pertinent issue on this one. Even if only because he thinks people who use TikTok hate him. If China blocks Facebook and Google, then only Chinese companies get to compete in the Chinese market. That means there's a financial advantage to social media companies based in (and answerable to) the Chinese gov. Why should those companies then be allowed to compete in the US market?

Personally I'm not happy with Facebook either, it's increasingly hard to avoid using any of their products. People put WhatsApp numbers in shop windows like it's not also a phone number and people expect you to use it. I'd be even less happy if Facebook were based in China. Some of the social scoring and monitoring of people they do over there sounds dystopian.
