I’ve always been a first adopter and never regretted it. First iMac gave me great service, as did iPhone, iPad, and watch. Did they get better and cheaper over time? Sure. But got a lot of pleasure and use out of each and considered it money well spent. Not a clunker or rip off in the lot. 

Oh for sure there are items that are pretty much decent outta the box, but some of the capabilities tend to be limited right outta the gate sometimes. I was an iPhone 4 purchaser when I decided to get one after a few yrs of not owning a cell phone. For the iPad I waited until 2018, picked up an 11in Pro version (bought referrbed), then traded it in for a 12.9 in M2 last yr. I guess my argument is mainly about their peripheral devices and not your laptops or desktops.

As a general “value” strategy, your money will be worth less two generations in the future due to inflation. Not to mention opportunity cost not having whatever-tool that you have a job for today. Thus if I need a device today, I buy it today. And I often sell it tomorrow. 

I see your point. But then I look at the costs of products in the past and what they can do now as compared to say 20 yrs ago for the same price. More or less. At least in regards to PC's and the like.

Still can’t shake the idea that the Ultra isn’t the top end of Apple Silicon though. Having a Mac Pro and Mac Studio as-is is redundant — unless Apple has bigger plans for the Mac Pro. 

I think that as well. They gotta have an extreme or whatever it would be called above an Ultra in testing. All the leaked schematics had a quad chip from what I recall. But who knows!

Perhaps Apple will release MacPro with an M3 Extreme of some sort? They need to do something to differentiate the Mac Pro from Mac Studio other than it has PCIe slots. More CPU/GPU power, higher RAM capacity would definitely separate it from the Mac Studio for those who really need the power and capacity. Make it actually worth its $6-7,000 starting price tag. 

Rumor had it they were we're working on one. That would definitely be the differentiator for the costs between HW options along with PCIe slots.
