  • Apple rolls out improved Apple Maps for Australia

How ironic…given that Australians aren’t allowed the leave their houses.  Yuck yuck   😂
Just for clarity. It’s only two states (New South Wales and Victoria) that are currently locked down. The rest of the Australia has had very little lock down, and very few COVID cases since they pandemic began. South Australia has only had one week of lockdown this year, and a couple  last year. So we’re certainly out and about!

  • Report finds AirTag enables 'inexpensive, effective stalking'

So, as usual, Apple is held to a different standard than everyone else. There’s Tile, Chipolo, Samsung and many others, that have been around for years (without any anti stalking facilities) and yet nothing is ever said. Apple produces a version WITH anti stalking, and they’re the ones who are criticised. It never ends.

  • Apple to debut 8-inch foldable iPhone in 2023, Kuo says

The problem is that people have much higher expectations of Apple. We expect Samsung phones to be rubbish, poorly built, and for the folding seam to give way after 6-12 months. That’s Samsung, that’s what we expect.  But if Apple delivered such a device, its customers, let alone the media, would not tolerate it (even though the media quite happily accepts Samsung’s “it’s not meant to be touched roughly or with fingernails” caveat). So, until the technology exists for Apple to do it properly, they won’t do it - that’s what Samsung is for.

I suppose this is no more extravagant than those that bought the $10,000 Gold Apple Watch back in the day.  I guess if you have the money to blow on what is obviously an overpriced product, go right ahead and let the country enjoy the extra sales tax.

I'm expecting the Kim Kardashians and other Instagram "influencers" to show this piece of excess off in the photos.

The $10K Apple Watch is an interesting story.

You need to remember that before Apple Watch, “smart watches” were unfashionable, clunky, scarce on features, and mostly for geeks. Kind of like computers used to be. In fact, the “experts” (mostly anti-Apple writers) told us that we didn’t need them, it was just another fad, and would obviously be a complete flop.

Fast forward six years, and those “experts “ couldn’t have been more wrong. As usual.

But Apple did have a challenge with the first Apple watches. To convince the world that smart watches could also be fashionable, cool, and weren’t just for geeks.

So what better way to do this than to release a highly sought after, expensive, fashionable watch, in styling and pricing that celebrities would wear. It was featured in fashion shows and sold in special Apple boutiques. The ripple effect of this was that people saw Apple Watches as something that was not only useful and technologically advanced, but also something that was fashionable, personal, and non-geeky. Something that they would actually wear.

Today, with Apple Watch outselling all of the competitors combined, I’d have to say that the $10K Gold Watch was money well spent for Apple. Did they need to continue making it? Probably not. It served its purpose and broke down the barriers. There will always be a small market for higher priced, low volume, special versions of Apple devices (anyone remember the Twentieth Anniversary Macintosh) and I’m sure they will tap into it from time-to-time. But, thankfully, Apple continues to focus on high quality, exceptionally designed devices, that the rest of us can afford and enjoy.

  • Developers claim that Apple's privacy-first features are 'atomic bomb' for revenue

    Reminds me of this:

Telemarketer: Hi, would you be interested in switching over to TMI long distance service?

Jerry: Oh, gee, I can't talk right now. Why don't you give me your home number and I'll call you later?

Telemarketer: Uh, well I'm sorry, we're not allowed to do that.

Jerry: Oh, I guess you don't want people calling you at home.

    Telemarketer: No.

Jerry: Well, now you know how I feel. [Jerry hangs up phone]
