Apple sues virtualization firm Corellium for selling iOS and iTunes knockoffs
dysamoria said:I read the article, not the filing. What’s being copied? What’s being stolen? It sounds like they’re using iOS on... emulated hardware??
Exactly. And Apple hasn't licensed them to do so. -
Apple Music launches Apple Digital Masters collection of high-quality songs
Comparing Apple "Digital Masters" to Tidal Masters makes no sense.
TL;DR: Apple "Digital Masters" is marketing, telling that the original music was at the quality of Tidal Masters before you downsampled it into the music consumers actually get.
Details:
Tidal has a Hi-Fi subscription tier , which provides lossless audio. On this subscription tier, you can also access even higher quality encodings of music encoded with MQA. I've got it, but I don't have any meaningful way to play it on the one system where I have high quality components, speakers and head phones - neither the Sonos Connect, the built in HEOS, Apple TV or AirPlay can handle this AFAIK. And lossless is good anyways.
Apple Music "Digital Masters" is just marketing indicating that you started with high quality source material before you downsampled it to 256 kbps (16/44.1).
If Apple added a high quality tier (lossless), I'd upgrade my subscription on day 1. -
Apple Music 'A-List: Hip Hop' playlist is now 'Rap Life'
When I think about "How could we improve Apple Music?", "more rap" would probably be at the bottom of the list alongside "more hip-hop".
Better suggestions:
- folders, for better organisation. Having your own lists alongside lists you've added from Apple Music makes for a confusing mix, and it's really hard to find your own lists on the go or via CarPlay
- Make it easier, on multiple platforms (including Sonos), to like/dislike songs.
- add a tier for lossless music. I'd upgrade to it immediately.
- separate the files for Apple Music from your own on Mac

New 'iPhone 11 Max' case renders back triple-lens camera, Lightning port
Originally, I intended to upgrade my 7 plus this year. I've had a change of heart recently - waiting one more year to get 5G seems to make sense. If they're not moving off lightning yet, that's one more reason to wait - no reason to be stuck with a connector that hopefully should become obsolete soon.
Ligthning was superior to USB micro, but USB C works pretty well and I'd rather have a need for less chargers to handle/cables to handle everything (headsets, computer, iPhone, iPad, game controllers etc etc). They've already migrated the iPad Pro and laptops to USB C micro, iPhone should follow.

Apple reveals which Macs will run macOS Catalina
lkrupp said:So my late 2013 27” iMac 14,2 will run Catalina but should I upgrade? I was called away from my desk when the macOS announcements were being made. Any mention of Catalina being 64bit only or has Apple kicked that can of worms down the road?
