Review: Apple's 2016 12" MacBook is a welcome improvement, but won't change any minds
I think that discounting the revised rMB is similar to what people said about the MBA and frankly just about every Apple product. Apple doesn't make products that address the needs of every possible person / scenario. They make a number of different products that each fits a fairly narrow use-case. The rMB was never supposed to be a replacement for the rMBP 13" and it's clearly even different than the MBA. In fact, it does fit somewhere between the iPad Pro, MBA and 13" rMBP.
Why people feel that every product should do everything is ridiculous. The rMB doesn't need a bunch of ports, because it is meant to live in the wireless world that many people already are completely ingrained in. It doesn't have a high powered chip or ability to run multiple screens because again, that's not what it was made to do. In fact, for lots of people, having a low powered chip has no negative effect because they're using the computer to be online, write emails, documents and spreadsheets, maybe view some photos and watch the occasional video. And for these basic computing uses, the rMB is perfect.
Plus it does this in a thin and light form factor that still provides all day use. I think it's a fantastic product and one on my list to get for work travel. -
Apple expected to ditch aluminum, release glass-backed iPhone with OLED display in 2017
I agree with others, if Apple can produce a glass body with a 6-style shape, it will be pretty cool. The iPhone 4(s) was probably the best design, in part because it was different than everything else out at the time, it felt good to hold and I know I never had issues with broken screen or back (although once passed down to my kids, they did end up break one or the other). There has to be a way to provide more fracture resistance to glass and forming it into a case should add to it's strength (as opposed to just a plain sheet). Ceramic would also be a good alternative to the aluminum they've been using lately, which would also allow for different colors and sheen levels. -
FBI lawyer refuses to say whether data extracted from San Bernardino iPhone is 'useful'
My guess is that the FBI knew, as many here have come to the same conclusion, that the work phone has nothing valuable on it, which is why it was not destroyed in the first place. What the FBI was trying to do, was simply set precedent with this case, so that they could easily gain access for other cases. The fact that they were able to seemingly easily get to the data, without Apple's help, should make it a moot point looking for a backdoor, when there seems to be a front door they can access data from. -
Alleged parts leaks suggests Apple could boost battery life, feature ceramic body with 'iPhone 7'
A ceramic iPhone body would be pretty cool, except for the fact that it would add another component I would worry about cracking when dropped.
Obviously ceramic mic has come a long way and can be made to survive very demanding environments. The car I'm getting has ceramic buttons and control pieces which have a decidedly better feel than the plastic and metal parts they replaced and I assume they will last longer as well. -
US Attorney General Loretta Lynch talks iPhone encryption case with Stephen Colbert
I think, what Apple should do is to not only do what the FBI is asking, but go a step further and create a new version of iOS that is completely open and hackable so the government has access to everyone's data - and so that the Russian, Chinese and other nefarious hackers can steal everyone's data, bank accounts, etc.
It's just ridiculous that the FBI is hanging its hat on this one iPhone, which just happens to be the one thing the perp didn't destroy...hint, hint, maybe because it's got nothing on it worth hiding...
