I’ll be back whenever Victor invites me! Super excited for the new OSes at WWDC but a little deflated by the apparent lack of new MBP and iPad Pro hardware — I’m itching to upgrade.

I'm on iOS 10, and the Tidal app can stream out to play audio to my Apple TV.  I have the TOSLink Optical out from the AppleTV (gen. 3) running into a optical/coax electrical converter, and from there to the input to the DAC which drives my living room stereo.  The audio could also play out of the 5.1 receiver and speakers which are used for watching movies/TV/etc. content from the Apple TV.

This article is about sending an AirPlay signal to multiple speakers (including two HomePods). If you are using the Tidal app on your iPhone, you cannot AirPlay sound to two HomePods at once. For that, you'll need to use Tidal on your Mac and use Airfoil.

Are "other products" hardware or software/service? If the former, I wonder what that could be?

Other products are separate from the services business. Other products are hardware, services are things like Apple Music and iCloud subscriptions.

You can't do this with Apple's Music app, obviously. But I don't see any reason why it wouldn't work in a third-party app, whether a media player with NAS support, or a NAS file browser with media playback support. It would be best if the app had built-in support for AirPlay and used appropriate APIs to run in the background, but even systemwide AirPlay support should suffice.

I don't host my media on a NAS (I used to, but abandoned that when iTunes Match launched), so I can't recommend any apps that do this, unfortunately. But I did just stream an MP3 from iCloud Drive in Apple's Files app, and AirPlay it via iOS to my HomePod. So it works.
