  • watchOS 4 no longer lets you browse iPhone music library on your Apple Watch

Notwithstanding my conclusion in my prior comment about needing Apple Music to get granular control of your songs, I see that:

"Apple also confirmed to AppleInsider at Tuesday's release event that an Apple Music subscription is not required to stream music to the device using LTE. Users with iTunes Match subscriptions can stream owned music as well."

Obviously, LTE would let your Watch access the internet like it does through your iPhone's cellular function. So I read the above to mean that an iTunes Match subscription will give you the same functionality for the Watch Music app as an Apple Music subscription. Does anyone have that situation - i.e., iTunes Match but not Apple Music? Do you have granular control of your playlists etc? Because an iTunes Match subscription is a whole lot cheaper than an Apple Music subscription...

On the other hand, maybe all Apple meant is that you would have the Now Playing functionality...
I have iTunes Match but not Apple Music, and it works great on the Apple Watch Series 3 with cellular.

  • Apple Watch Series 3 LTE use not ideal for marathon runners, offers 3 hours of streaming m...

    Good to know, Neil. Thx.

I originally bought my Series one for the Heart Rate Monitor. I.e. to keep my HR at 125 for max fat burning (180-age=HR) But, b/c of the battery draw I stopped using it on my longer runs....plus I could tell, after awhile, my level of exertion w/o needing to look at the watch.

I also, keep a watch charger at work and am thinking of getting one for my car. It sure charges fast.

    Best Regards
Worth noting that the Apple Watch (all models) connects with Bluetooth heart rate monitors for external tracking. While this is presumably to allow for more accurate chest-mounted monitors, I would imagine that a side effect is a boost to battery life by not using the device's onboard heart rate sensors.

What is the blinking light in the notch that I saw in some of the close up? Seems distracting...
That's the IR dot projector. Only visible on cameras obviously.

Did you notice the hump of dead pixels on the right side of his notch? Max will be returning this phone I expect.

Something is wrong with the display, yes. Daniel also acknowledged in his first look that the colors are off from certain angles, which was not a problem we saw in earlier time spent with the hardware. We're looking into the issues with Apple.

  • Tip: Convert physical Blu-ray and DVD discs to iTunes with Vudu and Movies Anywhere

I connected my accounts the other day when I got the email annoucing the new service. It does show my movies from Vudu in the new Movies Anywhere service, however not all of them moved over to iTunes and not all of my iTunes movies show up in Movies Anywhere.
Not all studios support Movies Anywhere. Odds are the ones that didn't transfer over are not under the five participating studios I mentioned in the story — Disney, Sony, Fox, Universal, and Warner Bros.

For example, I scanned the film Crank — which was distributed by Lionsgate — and it didn't transfer to iTunes.

  • Apple Watch Series 3 with cellular and watchOS 4 have changed how I use my watch

I've been conducting tests where I leave my iPhone behind and only take my Series 3 with cellular and BT headphones. For the most part it works out well but there are definitely many areas in which it needs to grow.

For instance, I can figure out how to message an iMessage group with the Watch, even if I've given that group a name (e.g.: 👥 Siblings). Additionally, using it for Apple Music—a service I'm not enjoying on any device—is more complex to use with the Watch and still requires me to do a lot of pre-planning with my iPhone. I also can't seem to play podcasts, and there's no Sirius XM or Spotify apps, which are services I do like to use. Finally, for this short list of issues, I still need to bring my iPhone for grocery shopping because there's no Notes app. The workaround for that is to copy the list from Notes into Reminders which updates almost instantly.
After further digging, my assumptions were wrong: Apple's current APIs do not allow third-party apps to stream audio. Just Apple Music. Also, they aren't allowed to run audio in the background. So it's going to take some advancement on watchOS.
