  • Apple will switch more iPhone 14 Pro screen orders to Samsung

    netrox said:
I appreciate Apple's attempt to diverse though but the fact that rivals have difficulties show that Samsung is just the king of high quality manufacturing and has the talented team of engineers to do that.

Not only Samsung. OLED originates from LG. LG as well and it has been for years. Now, Apple Samsung and Sony uses it in addition to LG.

That is displays for mobile devices, but guess who dominates OLED market for large TV's.... LG then Sony that got it from LG and now Samsung seems to be dropping their QLED and went OLED. Now Apple.

So it is not exactly Samsung that is root of OLED displays.

  • Compared: iPhone 14 versus 2022 iPhone SE

    DangDave said:
The 2022 iPhone SE does not support Apple’s new satellite communications.
And new iPhone 14 does not suppor physical SIM in the United States (it cannot have eSIM in China by law and it must support physical SIM outside US).

So what is your point? Grist things first. You lose support for basics for some fancy support that people rarely use (probably never). That is immature.

  • Facebook engineers have no idea what happens with user data

So they suck at understanding regulatory requirements while writing software. That is question to their legal department as they have obligation to state that to clients and provide designs that deals with data in proper way (data policies on storage retention and eviction). Eve in finance you are not supposed to keep data on transactions beyond 7 years due to risks. So do they feel unregulated that much? They have big pockets to face lawsuits.

  • Brazil stops iPhone sales until Apple includes an AC charger

    omasou said:
Brazil put a price on wokeness, good.

Apple is so concerned about the environment they don't include a charger or earphones in their $1,000+ devices.

At the same time, they make products that can't be repaired and need to be replaced wholesale. Example my XS face ID crystal broke, turns out, that cannot be fixed or replaced. At all. Not by Apple or anyone else. Either you use the phone without, or you throw it away.

What @wood said is a simple solution but Apple won't do that because they're hypocrites. Apple used to be a good company under Steve Jobs - at that time, critics were saying the same thing. Back then they were not right. Today they are.

I also don't think the environment argument has merit - let's say Apple ships 1000x less chargers, OK, fair enough, but people are going to buy 100x more 3rd party chargers, most of which are way more polluting than what Apple is making in its closely monitored factores, and some of these 3rd party chargers will destroy the iPhones, leading to more waste. i think in the end nothing will have been saved. Except the carbon neutral rating, congratulations, hypocrites!

Price for Brazil iPhone by default includes charger. If someone don't want it than give deduction/rebate for charger in final price on invoice.

You can always switch to Android. Perhaps the grass is greener over there /s
What is your point? There is no logic in what you suggesting. He wants iPhone with charger - not Android. Can  you have better, more mature recommendations?

For the record, I switched to Android 3 years ago... for reason of Apple and individuals like yourself arrogance. Listening pays off, poor quality screen that does not respond to drier older person finger tips does not. LG at the time defeated both Apple and Samsung with of model I bought. Now, I hear Apple is going to use those LG displays. Well too late for me. I will consider all smartphone options and not only iPhone.

  • Goldman Sachs credit card practices under investigation by US watchdog

    rwes said:
Like someone else mentioned, and as we most already know, it's best to not carry balances but if you have to, the rates being mentioned seem to be common now even if you've got a decent credit score.

I've kept one of my first credit cards (a little over 20 years now) which has ~ 6% rate, but the card has no 'perks' so I almost never use it. If I ever need to make a purchase though that I couldn't pay off by the needed date to avoid interest, I would probably fall back to that card.
Young people have to learn hard way that credit card is one the most expensive way to get credit and that spiral of debt starts there and it is very easy to get into it by not paying all balance within 1-2 months. Then they wonder why they cannot buy car or home later or get any loan. Well the balance is registered by rating companies - the same that are checked for score when you apply for loans. Nothing is private there and creditor goes in first step to avoid risk of not getting money back and making profit on top of it.

In other words use credit card for daily and pay balance right away. in worst case scenario keep the balance for 1-2 months only and treat it as very short term loan in some extreme situations that occur in life. That fancy piece of plastic or it's version on smart device is very expensive.
