  • Storage firm Drobo has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy

Starcentric was having issues with the Drobo line long before coronavirus

There has been little innovation in product line for years now. They reduced the product line to just four products none of which were especially competitive against the likes of Synology

I have the 8D which was discontinued as part of the product cull. It's a good direct attached solution. Performance is just about OK… and that was/is the problem with BeyondRAID. Average performance and zero ways to recover data should a unit fail other than to an identical device which was prematurely discontinued and unavailable

I'm sorry to see them go but it was long overdue. I suspect this is the end and Chapter 11 is not going to save them

I was tryomg to recover something like that. Then I recommended to the person to move to Synology which I also use. Why people would buy something that is not very standard and it has support and recovery issues? Moving too fast without long term support is not the option to built reputation. Synology does exactly opposite so updates are still available to models from 2014. Why one would stop supporting something that is pretty much standard with standard file system that is a wonder. Drobo is unique.

  • Former Apple securities lawyer pleads guilty to insider trading charges

Levoff was meant to be in charge of enforcing a blackout period that would prevent people with such knowledge from buying or selling stock ahead of disclosure, but instead, he allegedly benefited by securing profits worth approximately $227,000 and avoided losses of $377,000.
Levoff's sentencing is scheduled for November 10. He could face a maximum penalty of up to 120 years in prison and up to $30 million in fines.
Assuming that we can add $227,000 and $377,000, then 120 years in jail for $604,000 works out to 1 year for each $5,030 robbed, or 1 day in jail per $13.69 robbed.

Also, a penalty of $30,000,000 for a crime of $604,000 works out to $49.67 in penalties for every dollar robbed.

Penalty is not a a trade. It is punishment. Start understanding this. It is supposed to be deterrent and education to criminal and others. You are not trading how much money for how many days. He hurt others by doing it and also destroyed integrity of his profession. For that one is getting severe punishment. Two dollars does not mean the same for different people.

  • Musk threatens to walk away from Twitter deal over high fake user count

If the deal falls through I think the SEC would have a good case of fraud to bring against Musk. Looking like this was all theatre from the get-go.
You are as clueless as it gets. No it won't. Once you educate yourself on SEC regulations call me. I spent last 20 years in financial investment banking IT mostly on regulatory side. I suggest you watch Apple as it is more likely to breach regulations than Musk if it still wants to become credit card processor and issuer. That is PCI DSS regulation violation and Apple legal team should know that better.

Investor can do these things. Period No discussion.

  • Apple looks to move away from China for its new products, says Kuo

That is until people stop eating bats that may have viruses there ;) Honestly, China shot itself in leg with that aggressive research that is on verge of manufacturing biological weapons. You reap what you sow.

  • Apple TV app stops video rentals & purchases on Android TV, Google TV

    lkrupp said:
So it looks like Apple is trying to avoid paying 30% to Google but wants its 30% from Epic?
Apples and oranges (no pun intended). Epic pays 30% to have its app hosted in the App Store. I find app store charges to be not only very reasonable but necessary. As for it is 30% ... I personally believe that for Apple and Google that is a bit high, but the reality is that you could lower it to 3% and some people would still claim that it is too high. But in this case, Google isn't hosting anything. I mean, they do host the Apple TV app, but they don't "need" to use Google as a backend to perform purchases and rentals. It is no different in theory from Netflix only allowing signups over the web to avoid the 30% fee from Apple (and Google). In practice this now requires Apple hardware to buy or rent movies and TV shows but that is different from Apple merely trying to avoid the 30%.
Yes Google does host. They host movies on YouTube for rent and it has been for quite some time.
