  • Intel-based iMac refresh will launch in the next week, leakers claim

It would make sense not to introduce a new design and wait for their own chip to unveil an all new design and chip as disappointing it will be to have to wait for a new design for another year or more. That said, these are just rumours so who really knows. One thing for sure, getting rid of intel is a smart move.

  • Review: The new August is the best Wi-Fi connected HomeKit smart lock around

I tend to disagree, Level Lock is far superior with a caveat. I was so close to buying August Wifi Lock but I knew the ugliness of it would not to get the seal of approval from my spouse. Level Lock fits inside the door, on the inside or the outside of the door, you have not go a clue its a smart lock. That is so nice.

However, the only caveat with Level Lock, the automation will only work if you have Apple Home kit, like Auto Unlock but that said, it does use Bluetooth so if you don't need automation then you don't need Apple Home Kit. It works so well and being hidden in the door does create a certain wow factor.

August was bought out by Yale so a good business to be associated with and I think if you like the appearance or don't mind the appearance of the August lock inside of your house then it is definitely the next best thing to Level Lock.

Unfortunately, neither the new Wifi August lock or Level Lock is sold overseas, I had to circumvent the purchase process by buying it online, sent to a friend in the US who then posted my Level Lock to Australia. I then had to download the app by creating a US account. Very convoluted but I got it and I love it.

  • Home automation firm Wink to enforce subscription program on July 27

Glad I don't own Wink products. It seems a bit harsh on its customer base. You buy a product for its features, when later get slugged with a fee to use those features.

There are two ways to look it, if they don't charge you, the Company goes bust and you end up with useless hardware or they charge you and you get to keep the hardware. Assuming they use the subscription revenue wisely. However, there customers are paying for poor management decisions to build hardware under cost.

Subscription services are wearing thin quickly but I just don't see the true value in for these sort of products. Possibly a small one off annual fee.

  • Study: Apple TV+ took home 27% of new OTT subscriptions during COVID-19

I find apple content to be very high quality but I may struggle to justify paying the monthly fee once my free year subscription ends that I got with my phone. That said, if every time I buy an iPhone I get a year subscription then there is real value there.

What I hope Apple doesn't do it just buy a ton of general content just to fatten out their offering, to turn it into another Amazon, Netflix, Hula etc. Cutting the cord with cable subscribers has been refreshing but now we have multiple movie channels and it feels just as segregated. At times there is so much content and choice, that I am left unable to make decision what to watch. It staggers me how so much content can get the viewers but clearly it must be doing.

  • Doctor credits Apple Watch for saving his life

And yet, countries such as Australia hold out from allowing the implementation of the ECG feature. it feels like Apple has given up its pursuit for rolling the ECG feature out further.
