  • US DOJ wants Facebook to help wiretap Messenger, report says

This will be the end result of DOJ and others get what they want on encrypted communication like Messages or FB Messenger:  Criminals will move to underground third party apps that are end to end encrypted and the gov't will have no ability to force anyone to give them a backdoor into it.  The rest of us will no longer have encrypted communication.

I suspect that's what they want anyway.

  • Ralph Nader once again assails Apple's stock buybacks

Are Apple's pension funds in any danger? How much more accelerated can their recycling programs be? Or their green energy efforts? It's not that I don't think any of his ideas are bad, it's just that I don't see how they really apply to Apple.

  • Comparing the 13-inch 2018 MacBook Pro vs. MateBook Pro

I'd be less concerned that it runs Windows instead of OS X and more worried that it's a Huawei.

  • Qualcomm exec says Apple's next iPhones will stick to Intel modems

There are so many variables to this, I don't know how Qualcomm can really crow much about it.  I switched from Verizon earlier this year to T-Mobile.  My Verizon iPhone had the Qualcomm modem and the TMobile version has the Intel modem.  I know it's supposed to be slower, but my data speeds have been consistently faster with TMobile compared to Verizon.  That might not be true everywhere, but it is where I live and work.  The network, and specifically the network where you use your phone most of the time has way more to do with it than the modem.

And am I mistaken or don't both of these modems exceed what most networks can even deliver to you consistently?  Sort of like having home internet that's 60Mbps and expecting that because your wifi router is capable of 1300Mbps, you'll see those kinds of speeds surfing the web.

  • macOS Mojave will drop support for some older Macs released before 2012

I've sent feedback to Apple asking them to reconsider, or at least support it with some features turned off for older Macs like they've done before with iOS for older iPhones.  I have a 2009 iMac that I maxed out the RAM on (16GB) and just 6 months ago swapped out the original HDD for an SSD.  It runs High Sierra great - better than it ran Mavericks or Yosemite with the old drive.  I'm sure it can handle 90% of what Mojave would demand if they'd let it.
