  • Coronavirus forcing Apple to postpone February 10 China retail reopen [u]

The discussion amongst our medical staff is that China’s lockdown has blocked the resupply of IV fluids and meds and hospital supplies into the quarantine area.

They feel that is the major reason for the differential in death rate between China and the rest of the world

Caveat:  that’s an assessment from half a world away, and only a few conversations.  YMMV

  • Here are all the receivers and speakers that are getting AirPlay 2

I still feel Apple is missing the boat on AirPlay. The Apple license to receiver manufacturers for AirPlay 2 is too limited .

I currently have a Denon receiver that supports AirPlay.   I would gladly upgrade the receiver AND buy several HomePods under one condition:
The AV receiver needs to SEND AUDIO OUT from all sources to the HomePod.  Specifically from HDMI #1, the cable DVR box from the cable company.

    Motivation:
During dinner prep time we are playing back the previously recorded news (we bounce and compare coverage on multiple channels MSNBC’s Rachel and then 11th hour, Fox and CNN,).   We want the audio to play both in the den AND the kitchen AND upstairs in our office.

The Apple TV is no help because MSNBC and other networks don’t provide current shows on the app.   Podcasts through the iPhone or iPad are no help because many of the networks delay access via an app for days.  I want my DVR output as well as output from my iPhone and Apple TV

Apple needs to sell both a “AirPlay 2 sender” license and an “AirPlay 2 receiver” license to the mfgs.

That’s what it will take to get me to move forward and buy several HomePod speakers.

  • Hands on: Brydge 12.9 Series II keyboard for Apple's iPad Pro aims for MacBook-style feel ...

We bought Brydge keyboards for the medical staff.  Our EHR software runs on it’s dedicated iPad app, and out in the field is noticeably faster than accessing the the same EHR through a browser over cellular (and is more focused on the physician’s input needs).

Each appointment still requires substantial typing as the physician inputs their notes.  Consistently they like these keyboards better than all the other brands we bought over many years.  Never feels like there is any risk of dropping the iPad as they move around during the exam.  Each appointment is lots of pick up, balance on lap, turn to show patient, discuss and document

The iPad apps getting the most use on our machines are the EHR, UpToDate, micromedix,   Atlas the human body (to show patients “here’s where the problem...”) and Safari.

Occasionally back in the office I see a physician reach up to touch their MacBook screen by reflex - but more often I see them camped out on a comfortable couch feet up finishing charts on an iPad Pro with Brydge.

The only time they really want to sit at a desk with MacBook or large iMac is when they are researching tough problems (multiple browser windows side by side) or logging back into a hospital’s systems.

The admin staff on the other hand ask for MacBook Air/Pro or 27 inch iMacs for their work.

  • A year with Apple's 10.5-inch iPad Pro: the ideal worker's tablet

    entropys said:
Those are not mutually exclusive ...... Network server access could be made available in the files app as easily as cloud server access currently is. that would increase the power of the ipad as a tool quite markedly.
We found the app “FileBrowser for Business” provides good server access via the workplace  higherarcial folder structure.  Fast and works well over VPN even if using a cellular link

  • Some macOS Server services being stripped out in spring, including Calendar, Websites, Mai...

Apple will not sign a HIPPA IT partner agreement mandated by HSS for any of their iCloud services.

That single issue right there blocks the use of iCloud for a medical office.

I truly do appreciate the easier admin UI and put the time and money savings to other good use.   OS X server is responsible for the sale of  9x current MacBook/MacBook Pros,  10x current iPads, 5x 27” iMacs, 16x current iPhones, plus one lowly quad core Mac Mini with it’s RAID storage array.

Synchronizing Contacts, Calendars,  iMessages  and much more are critical functions that I would prefer to have in an easy to use interface.

But,  my guess is Tim doesn’t care about that kind of business.
