Broadway shows turning to iPads to simplify production & cut down on waste
I appreciate the thoughtful comments about who iPads won’t work for musical productions but nobody has mentioned the often-enormous cost of delivering paper changes. This usually requires courier services to a few dozen artists and production team members.
As as for the musicians union, it’s just a matter of time until these technologies become part of control negotiations. It will happen but probably not soon or all at once. -

Surrender, Detroit! Automakers should give in and develop native apps for CarPlay
I would love to see APPLEINSIDER follow up with a story that ranks carmakers and models by how well they deliver the best integration with Apple CarPlay.I’d also welcome an updated review on third party systems, such as Alpine, ranked the same way.
Since carmakers are so slow to accomodate tens of millions of iPhone users, I wish Apple would bypass them altogether by bundling an iPad Mini with a portable dashboard or console mount. I’d rather pay $1000 to Apple for such a product than roll the dice on an expensive third party system (plus installation!) -
What movie studio consolidation means for Apple's media ambitions
This summary does a nice job summarizing the recent history of studio mergers and consolidation, but fails to explain the underlying business models. Moreover, this fails to address the elephant in the room, namely, why on earth does Apple want to be in the very risky business of media creation? It's not at all clear that Netflix or Amazon's business models are actually profitable --- as neither has revealed either their program costs or, crucially, the audience size for original production. Film and TV studios are "hit-driven" businesses. They require massive successes to offset the inevitable box office and ratings bombs. From a risk-reward standpoint, Apple is almost certainly better off focusing on delivering a frictionless combination of hardware and service that allows consumers to discover and consume their favorite media at an attractive price point. -
