I don't see the logic here. Since these are foreign entities, doesn't that leave the tools and capabilities available to everyone except the US?

As a foreigner, I would think the US would want, eg, NSA, to have access even if only to develop counter-measures (and the 'I don't trust NSA argument' doesn't work here because, if they're not trustworthy, they'll acquire the tools anyway).

So Clegg is opposed to Apple offering its customers privacy, actually a privacy choice (there is a switch but I guess that doesn't fit into FB's argument). I hope for his sake that they're paying him a lot of money because his credibility is gone.

The car (mine's a BMW too) is in a much better position to do this. The car assesses a collision automatically to determine whether and which airbags to deploy, seatbelts to tension etc so it has a good view of whether it's necessary to call emergency services.

The problem there is getting the heat out. If you look at the teardown of the new MBPs, they've got some pretty hefty fans as well as space to spread it around so they'll run much longer (forever?) before having to throttle their performance.
